In true RPG fashion, The Blood of Dawnwalker allows players to enjoy adventure, action, and yes, even romance. Thankfully, unlike in games like Baldur’s Gate 3, where one decision can unravel an entire relationship, your companions in Dawnwalker are also much more forgiving if you accidentally say the wrong thing.
Since you play the game as Coen rather than a customized player character, there are obviously no options for a female-female relationship. Coen can choose from two female companions or one male companion. Of course, if you don’t want to choose, Dawnwalker also doesn’t limit players, and you’re welcome to pursue all three relationships.
Every Romance Option In The Blood Of Dawnwalker
As mentioned, Coen has three romanceable partners in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Anca, Lacra, and Crake. You’ll meet all three of these characters at different points during the story and choose whether your relationship takes a romantic route or remains entirely platonic.
Anca
Anca is the first romance option you’ll meet in the game, and in a way, is seemingly designed to be Coen’s true romance. It’s established right from the first few minutes of the game that Coen’s siblings already believe he has a crush on Anca, and if you visit her during the prologue, you can begin to lay seeds for this romance.
Anca is ultimately the one who will teach Coen to use Witchcraft, and she remains a constant shoulder for him throughout the game, with several important quests tied to her. This romance develops naturally over time and involves plenty of flirting that eventually bubbles up into a full-blown romance if you let it.
Crake
Crake is the second romance option you’ll have for Coen, and a bit of a surprising one. When you first meet Crake, you won’t exactly be given the warmest welcome, and in fact, you won’t see him again until he decides you’ve done enough to earn your spot in the Manumit.
However, once you’re officially a Manumit member, Crake will grow to trust you rather quickly, and you’ll be presented with options to steer the conversation a bit more flirty. To foster this relationship, all you need to do is get to know the leader and remain understanding instead of shifting blame when things go wrong.
Lacra
Depending on how you do things, Lacra is likely the last romance option you’ll meet in Dawnwalker. At some point, you’ll get word of something rampaging through the city across rooftops, and it turns out it’s Lacra, a Vrakhiri who just so happened to be lugging a large Uriashi across the roof with her for interrogation.
Lacra is confident, blunt, and doesn’t have time for bullshit. She voices her opinion loudly and will frequently challenge Coen if he attempts to push or pry too hard. For this reason, and because she’s also a Vrakhiri, her romance scene is a bit more intense and violent than the other two.
At times, she can get Coen into trouble because of her darker personality, but she’s been through a lot and will gradually open up if given the opportunity. Not to mention, she understands what Coen is going through a little more than he might expect.
That said, she’s not looking for anything serious, so don’t be disappointed when her romance boils down to barely more than a passionate one-night stand.
Can You Romance More Than One Person?
While most RPGs limit romances to a single choice, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a lot more forgiving. Whether you’re interested in keeping things platonic or romancing all three characters, it’s entirely up to you, and you won’t face any consequences for doing so.
This is likely because the three romance options are so isolated from each other that it’s easy for Coen to maintain independent relationships with each of them without there being any potential crossover. Whereas in a game like BG3, all your romance options are traveling together and sharing a camp.
That said, even if you romance all three companions, don’t expect it to be as integrated into the story as romances might be in other RPGs. Aside from flirting and, yes, some spicy NSFW scenes, the romance itself rarely plays a major role in any story decisions. In fact, you can often anger your companion on a quest and still have the romance proceed as normal once it’s over.
Also, it’s worth noting that there are no unique NPC one-night stands or encounters beyond these three options, so if you’re interested in any romance for Coen, you will be limited to these three.
