But he has since steadied the ship, winning his third-round, fourth-round, and quarterfinal clashes in straight sets.

Alexander Zverev achieves impressive feat at the US Open

Following his triumph at Roland Garros earlier this year, Zverev is seeking a second Grand Slam title at the US Open.

Zverev has enjoyed an incredible season at Grand Slams, and his win over Van de Zandschulp has now confirmed he has made the semifinals at all four majors.

He reached the semifinals at the Australian Open first, and was a service game away from making the final, but ultimately fell to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Zverev then took advantage of a wide open draw at Roland Garros, winning the tournament by beating Flavio Cobolli in the final.

Having finally captured an elusive major title, Zverev achieved his best-ever result at Wimbledon, going all the way to the championship match, where he was denied by Jannik Sinner.

Now, at the US Open, Zverev is two wins away from major number two, and is set to face Karen Khachanov next.

According to Opta Ace, among players to begin their career in the Open Era, Zverev is now the oldest to reach all four Grand Slam semifinals in a season for the first time, at 29 years and 132 days.

Zverev is set for a big increase in his ATP points tally with his run at the US Open, having exited the tournament early last year.

In 2025, Zverev was knocked out of the US Open in the third round, losing to eventual semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime.

By making the semifinals this time around, Zverev is currently on a tally of 8490 ATP points and is beginning to widen the gap between Alcaraz and himself in the live rankings.

Alcaraz lost 1600 ATP points with an unsuccessful title defence, leaving him with a total of 5560.

Ben Shelton, who has made the semifinals of the US Open, can go within 200 points of Alcaraz if he wins the title.

While Zverev is clear of Alcaraz, he is still a fair distance away from Sinner in first.

Sinner sits atop the rankings with 11,500 ATP points, comfortably ahead of everyone else despite missing the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.
