Erik Jones has signed another contract extension to remain behind the wheel of the No. 43 Toyota for Legacy Motor Club for several more years after the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The team announced the new contract extension for Jones on Sunday at Kansas Speedway, writing on X:

“Locked in. ✍️ [Erik Jones] has signed a multi-year agreement with the CLUB!”

Jones first joined the No. 43 team in 2021, when it competed under the Richard Petty Motorsports name. Jones signed a multi-year deal to replace Bubba Wallace and took over one of NASCAR’s most famous car numbers and the team changed ownership soon after Jones joined.

Maury Gallagher’s GMS Racing acquired a majority interest in the Petty operation, and the organization became Petty GMS for the 2022 season. Jimmie Johnson later joined the ownership group, and the team was rebranded as Legacy Motor Club ahead of the 2023 season.

Jones stayed through every stage of that transition. He scored his first victory with the team at Darlington Raceway in 2022. It was the No. 43’s first Cup Series win since 2014.

“It’s well deserved. 🤘” a fan reacted.

“At this point you guys may as well add him to the ownership group,” another shared.

“Jones and Chastain are the two most underrated drivers in cup,” another wrote.

Other fans reacted to the No. 43 team’s equipment issues.

“Now give him some good cars to drive,” one commented.

“Let’s get him some fast reliable equipment so we can see that 43 return to victory lane glory,” yet another shared.

Erik Jones missed the Chase after finishing the regular season outside the top 16 and was 21st in the NASCAR Cup Series standings heading into Kansas.

“We had 30 employees maybe” – Erik Jones reflects on his early days with the No. 43 team

Erik Jones reflected on his time at Legacy Motor Club and said:

“I think that journey started probably six years ago. When I joined the 43, I think we had 30 employees maybe and we were a single-car team.”

He compared that experience with his time at Joe Gibbs Racing, where he felt like one part of a much larger championship organization.

“At the end of it all, the leadership role has been higher than ever. It’s something I’ve learned to do more and more and try to be more involved with and just more engaged in meetings, and being there, and being a part of things.”
