In November of 2017, Pixar Studios released Coco, an animated film about a young boy’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) journey. As a high school Spanish teacher and golf coach, I’ve referenced and shown Coco to my students for a decade. Day of the Dead imagery has seeped into the North American consciousness during the past ten years, as a proper complement to our Halloween.
DOTD (or DDLM for the Spanish-readers) is not about the scares and the frights. Instead, it’s about remembering your ancestors and honoring their legacy. It allows children to develop an understanding of passing from this world to the next, in a softer, manageable manner. Yes, there are skulls and skeletons, but they ride or die with marigolds, candles, and memorabilia from the lives of the departed.
In 2023, I wrote a review of the TRUE Linkswear shoe take on Day of the Dead for GolfWRX. I enjoyed the heck out of that shoe, and it was only after three years of wear, on and off the course, that I finally gave them up. It’s 2026 now, and I’m back with a look at a golf de lus muertos series of products from SuperStroke.
This fall, during one of our team’s competitions, I saw a young man rock a DDLM/DOTD headcover, and I told him how much I liked it. It’s fated, then, that SuperStroke should release three grips and two headcovers for your putter. After all, it’s that club that completes the cycle of each hole’s life.
One of my former golfers started his own putter company, called T-Squared. I asked him to make me a putter with DOTD/DDLM imagery in 2023. You get the whole sequencing thing, right? Now I have a SuperStroke grip and headcover to match the putter head. I feel invincible!
These grips and other limited-edition items come in three sizes. The 2.0 PT is the narrowest of the grips, coming in at 1.02 inches. The Pistol 1.0 follows, at 1.14 inches wide. The Tour 2.0 is slightly larger, at 1.17 inches in girth. All three feature a length of 10.5 inches. The Tour 2.0 is the lightest in weight, at 55 grams. 2.0 PT checks in at 76 grams, while Pistol 1.0 tips the scales at 83 grams.

The putter covers also come in three unique sizes. SuperStroke offers a blade, a mallet, and a center-shafted mallet for the variety of torque and zero-torque putters that currently fill the marketplace. There is even a super-rad, long-sleeve T-shirt from the company. It sports the same colors and images that catch the eye on dia de los muertos and all other days.
Golf has embraced the experience, the vibe, the individuality of its participants, in ways never before seen. What better way to remember your mentors, your ancestors, and your former playing partners than with a tricked-out putter with Day of the Dead motifs from Super Stroke? I can’t think of another one, either.
