Newly minted UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje doesn’t like his former opponent Ilia Topuria’s mentality.
Earlier this year, at UFC Freedom 250, Gaethje pulled off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history, dethroning Topuria and handing the 29-year-old the first loss of his professional career. Gaethje broke two of Topuria’s orbital bones, his nose, and his foot, forcing the Georgian-Spaniard’s corner to stop the bout after the fourth stanza.
Following recovery and rehabilitation, Topuria announced earlier this month that he’s back and also accused Gaethje of loading his gloves before their UFC White House 155-pound title unification showdown.
Gaethje has denied the accusations and made it clear that he has no interest in granting “El Matador” an immediate title rematch.
Earlier today, on the Flagrant podcast, Gaethje, while speaking about Topuria’s super-confident and championship mentality, gave his two cents on where he thinks “El Matador” went wrong. According to the 37-year-old, Topuria had created a “fake world” around himself, believed himself to be ‘invincible and unbeatable,’ celebrated before fights, and updated his bio, adding wins to his record. “The Highlight “quipped:
“I think he created a fake world before… Believing he’s invincible, unbeatable. That’s not possible. Nobody’s f**king invincible… Having parties, updating his bio. So it’s kind of the same, but as a loser now.”

Justin Gaethje has not decided if he will defend the title or retire
During the same sit-down, Justin Gaethje added that he is still recovering from injuries he suffered on June 14 and has not made a decison yet regarding whether he will defend his title next year or retire. Gaethje added:
“Everyone’s like, you know, ‘You fu*king fight Arman.’ I don’t know what the fu*k I have. I have injuries I need to take care of. I haven’t made a decision. I am 37 years old. My first fight was in 2008. I’ve had 40 fights, including my amateur fights. So I don’t know. I don’t need [to fight again].”

If Gaethje returns next year, he is expected to lock horns with Arman Tsarukyan, who most recently knocked out Mauricio Ruffy cold at UFC 331 to prove why he’s the top 155-pound contender. “Batman” believes Gaethje is easy game and has already asked “The Highlight” to vacate and retire if he does not want to fight soon.
