Ace Combat 8 devs dubbed its viral pink-haired waifu pilot “the most expensive character,” with Brand Director Kazutoki Kono revealing how much work went into creating her.
The Ace Combat series is known for its action-packed aerial dogfights and realistic-looking fighter jets, but that’s not what fans have had their sights set on. No, this time they’ve been fixated on Ace Combat 8’s pink-haired pilot, Tasha Seversky.
Tasha famously stole the show during the PlayStation State of Play, with both series veterans and newcomers alike vying to take to the skies just for her. In fact, the reaction to Ace Combat’s best girl was so strong that her designer was left shocked by her popularity.
Ace Combat Brand Director Kazutoki Kono has now shed further light on Tasha’s creation, explaining why she is known internally as “the most expensive character” in Ace Combat 8.
Ace Combat 8 Tasha had a pricey development
“Work on Tasha started relatively early, and she was originally designed by a different artist. She is also the character that took the longest to finalize,” said Kazutoki Kono via an interview with Inven Global.
“Her story and direction were already set, but we kept modifying various aspects afterward, making her the character we refined the longest during development. That’s why inside the development team, we jokingly call her ‘the most expensive character.’”
While no details about any costs have been revealed, it looks like the development behind Tasha’s signature smile and eye-catching appearance took a great deal of time and effort. As for why she’s been received so well by fans, Kono believes it’s all down to the character’s smiley personality and fashion sense.
“I think elements like her personality, outfit, and especially her sense of fashion in wearing military attire so uniquely happened to fit current trends well, which contributed to all the attention she received,” the Brand Director explained.
Tasha fans will be able to learn more about her when Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches on October 2, 2026. In the meantime, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 has also been getting a lot of attention, thanks to, you guessed it, another pink-haired waifu.
