An AEW name has suddenly referenced Cody Rhodes’ father Dusty Rhodes in his recent social media post. The person in question was a good friend of the American Dream and even shared the ring with him on several occasions. The name being talked about is none other than the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.
Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair were one of the most popular names in professional wrestling during the 1980s. While Flair actually idolised Cody’s father while he was trying to break into the business in the 1970s, they actually faced each other several times. A lot of their populat matches took place in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and Jim Crockett Promotions.
While both stars maintained a close relationship with WWE long after their in-ring retirements, Ric Flair joined AEW a few years ago. Cody Rhodes was actually one of the founding members of the Jacksonville-based company but left to join WWE in 2022. While Flair remains to be with All Elite Wrestling, he recently referenced Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes in his latest Instagram post. He posted a clip of one of their old matches against each other, claiming that they always had classics in the ring.
“You Put The American Dream And The Nature Boy In The Same Ring, And You Knew You Were Getting A CLASSIC! WO0000!” He wrote.
Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes are arguably two of the most legendary wrestlers of all time.
Cody Rhodes was one of the founding members of AEW
All Elite Wrestling came into existence in 2019 with Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes as the company’s founding members. The promotion was built on the success of the original All In pay-per-view that took place in 2018 under the Ring of Honor banner.
AEW’s first show was Double or Nothing which saw the debut of Jon Moxley after the iconic match between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho. On the same show, Cody Rhodes and his brother Dustin Rhodes put on a generational Brother vs. Brother match.
Despite his departure from the company in 2022, Cody’s influence still remains to be a part of AEW.
