Anthony Edwards began the NBA season in style to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a win at the Miami Heat.
The Minnesota Timberwolves‘ visit to the Miami Heat lined up as one of the most fascinating games on the slate – but it turned into a one-sided affair.
An incredible performance from Anthony Edwards took the shine off Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s debut for the Miami Heat. The Timberwolves earned a blowout win 131-106.
Anthony Edwards accomplished two incredible feats…
Edwards scored 45 points and managed 10 rebounds, and he is one of only five NBA players in history to do this in a season opener.
- Wilt Chamberlain (2), Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards
This is also the second time that Edwards has scored 40 points or more in a season opener. This is an even rarer statistic. Only two players in history have managed this.
- Wilt Chamberlain (4), Michael Jordan (3), Anthony Edwards (2)
The Timberwolves star is only 25-years-old and could yet overtake Wilt Chamberlain’s incredible feat in the years ahead.
Edwards was also enthused by his new pairing with Timberwolves teammate LaMelo Ball,
“Me and him are gonna be like best friends,” he said in his postgame interview. Ball contributed 21 points.
This was a statement performance from Edwards, who is putting last season’s playoff frustration behind him. He looked like an MVP candidate out there – and will be in the mix if he keeps on playing like this.
