Arthur Fils issues emotional statement after his withdrawal from Roland Garros

The injury issue is hugely disappointing for the talented Frenchman and the fans at Roland Garros, who would have been desperate to see a home champion emerge.

But such a champion definitely won’t arrive in the form of Fils, who was scheduled to play Stan Wawrinka in his opener before his withdrawal was confirmed.

Fils posted on his Instagram: “I won’t be able to play Roland Garros this year.

“I did everything I could to be ready.

“This tournament means everything to me and not being able to compete here is one of the toughest things I’ve had to face.

“I know what I’m capable of.

“Right now, I’m just not there.

“See you soon.”

It’s a short but emotional statement from Fils, who has had his fair share of injuries despite his brief career so far.

Fils is a four-time champion on the ATP Tour, with the 21-year-old having clinched one of those titles at Barcelona this year.

He has really hit the ground running since his return from injury in February, having endured an eight-month layoff with a back problem.

But he’s currently 22-7 for the 2026 season, and has hugely impressively battled his way back into the ATP top 20.

Moreover, Fils has been the best player under pressure on the court lately, even outperforming superstar duo Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

It does, however, remain to be seen when he can come back from his latest setback, which has arrived at a very unfortunate time for the exciting youngster.
