With the season wrapped up, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 332 Austrian Bundesliga players. Once again, the update is dominated by Red Bull Salzburg players, even though the Mozartstädter have gone three consecutive years without a league title. Despite the lack of titles, Salzburg remain a hotbed for talent, with the top six players all playing for the Red Bull affiliate in Austria.

Austrian Bundesliga: All new market values at a glance

At the very top remains Bosnian national team player Kerim Alajbegović. “Alajbegović wasn’t in top form this spring for his club but stood out for Bosnia,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Austria & Switzerland Dorien Schuster said. Indeed, Alajbegović has the potential to become a big star at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. “Leverkusen have used their buyback clause already, and there are rumours that they could cash in on him immediately by selling him with a profit to Italy.” Transfermarkt understands that, for now, Leverkusen plan to go with Alejbegović, but the interest has to be taken into account, and as a result, the playmaker’s market value has increased by 46.7% from €15m to €22m.

Also heading to Germany is Austria’s most valuable center-back, Joane Gadou. “Gadou played a catastrophic second half of the season and struggled to make the squad,” Schuster said. “Despite all that, Dortmund were willing to pay €25m for the 19-year-old.” As a result, Gadou saw his market value increase by €8m from €12m to €20m. New Brentford center-back Jannik Schuster also saw his market value impacted by a transfer. “Schuster took Gadou’s starting XI spot and had some solid performances that earned him a transfer to the Premier League,” Schuster said. “Including bonuses, Schuster could become the second most expensive defender in league history behind Gadou.” As a result, Schuster saw his market value increase by 414.3% from €350,000 to €18m.

Austrian market values: Increases at champions LASK – Sturm Graz talents on the rise

In Linz, LASK celebrated their second league championship and first since 1965, and consequently, there have been some significant upgrades. Striker Moses Usor is now the most-valuable non-Red Bull player in the Austrian Bundesliga. “Usor, together with Saša Kalajdzić (+€2m to €4m) and American Samuel Adeniran (+€1.5m to €3m) one of the main reasons for LASK’s double,” Schuster said. “If he manages to stay fit, which has been an issue at times this season, then all doors are open for a career in one of Europe’s top five leagues.”

Nigerian forward Usor is one player to watch at LASK. Another is defender Modou Kéba Cissé. “Aston Villa purchased him last year while LASK were still playing in the relegation group,” Schuster said. “Now on loan at LASK, he made another big step forward in his development. Together with Andrés Andrade (+€500,000 to €2.5m) and João Tornich (+€1m to €2.5m), Cissé was part of the best defensive trio in the Austrian Bundesliga.”

At former champions Sturm Graz, two talents stood out: JP Hödl and Luca Weinhandl. “Hödl and Weinhandl were the only positives on an otherwise weak Sturm season,” Schuster said. “Hödl quickly became a regular as a wing-back at Sturm. Weinhandl stood out at the U17 World Cup and then became a regular in the Bundesliga squad even though he was only born in 2009. Big clubs are already interested in Weinhandl.” Both saw their respective market values increase to €5m. Hödl’s increase was €2m, and Weinhandl’s was €3m.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).

Note:
When you search for something on Google, you’ll see a box with the latest news alongside the usual results. If you set Transfermarkt as your preferred source, our content will appear there more often.
