Bayley’s WWE future continues to be a major topic of discussion in the wrestling world as rumors of her potential AEW move continue to circulate. Amidst the ongoing speculations, The Role Model took to social media recently to take part in an online trend in support of All Elite Wrestling star Rebel, who is currently engaged in a fight with a rare terminal disease.
Earlier in May, Rebel took to social media to reveal that she had been diagnosed with terminal ALS, a neurodegenerative disorder that accounted for the speech and mobility difficulties that had been troubling her over the past couple of years. The following month, the AEW personality announced her partnership with I Am ALS, a patient-driven organization working towards raising awareness and building resources for people battling the severe condition.
For a number of weeks now, talent from across the wrestling world have been taking part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in support of Rebel and her advocacy for greater ALS awareness. WWE superstar Bayley was the latest to join in on the trend after being nominated for it by her longtime peer Natalya and TNA legend Gail Kim. The former Women’s Champion dunked two separate buckets of ice water on herself for each nomination and, in turn, invited numerous stars, including Roxanne Perez, Maxxine Dupri and Grayson Waller, to participate in it as well.
Bayley has been missing from WWE programming since she lost to Lyra Valkyria at Saturday Night’s Main Event and was attacked by her former tag partner and protege in a brutal post-match beatdown. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion has reportedly not signed a new contract with the Triple H-led promotion yet, a claim that has further fueled reports of her potential AEW jump.
AEW set to host a special show in honor of Rebel
On September 9, All Elite Wrestling will set up shop in the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia, for a special edition of its flagship show, Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite. The episode, titled Rebel Heart, will air in honor of Rebel in light of her ALS diagnosis from earlier this year.
Although no matches have officially been announced for the show yet, the poster for Dynamite: Rebel Heart teases appearances from many of the company’s top names, including Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland and Mercedes Mone.
