Bella Mir’s team issued its first public comments about what went wrong with the highly-touted prospect during Tuesday’s DWCS fight.
Bella Mir, the daughter of former UFC champion Frank Mir, suffered the first loss of her Mixed Martial Arts career on Tuesday night on the latest rendition of Dana White’s Contender Series. Mir, who entered her fight with Alex Apodaca as one of the biggest favorites in the show’s history, lost by unanimous decision in a stunning end to an exciting night of fights.
UFC CEO Dana White, who shares a longtime friendship with the Mir family, was shocked during his post-fight press conference by her performance. Before falling short of a UFC contract, Mir earned three consecutive first-round wins and was regarded as one of the top female prospects in MMA.
Despite the devastating defeat, the 23-year-old Mir could potentially get a second shot to fight in the UFC with more experience in the cage. Just hours after Mir’s defeat, her team took to social media to react to the loss and preview what’s next for the promising young star.

In a recent Instagram post, Mir’s longtime wrestling coach Don McGregor issued the team’s first public statement about her stunning defeat.
“We win together, and we lose together. We have been here before, after losing in the national finals in HS and college. The messaging is always the same,” McGregor said of Mir.
“We’re not defined by our wins and losses, but by our character, our integrity, and the way we treat others in our lives. We are all so proud of you. Your MMA career and legacy are just beginning.”
As for Apodaca, she becomes the latest addition to the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division, which is in desperate need of new star power.
