The original Call of Duty: Black Ops is still one of the most iconic experiences in the franchise, with both a campaign and multiplayer modes that are still a blast to play today, as made more evident than ever thanks to its best-selling re-releases. Thankfully, even if you don’t have a copy of the original game yourself, some fans have made a project that will let you play it anywhere you want entirely for free.
Simply load up the link shared by MrTLexify on X, and you’ll be able to boot up and play any of the original 10 zombie maps from Black Ops 1, and even all of its DLCs right from your browser.
Black Ops 1 Is The New Browser-Based Pastime
While it took a bit of experimenting between browsers to get working, the browser version of Black Ops 1 zombies actually runs surprisingly better than you would expect, with only a few frame rate issues as you get to the larger areas with more zombies on screen at a time.
If you want to try it out for yourself, I would highly recommend turning on Hardware Acceleration or GPU usage in your browser’s settings in order to actually get it in a playable state, as it will seem like a slideshow rather than a playable game without it on some browsers.
Although it’s a bit of a bummer it doesn’t include a multiplayer or split-screen option, the Black Ops browser mode still recreates the original game with an incredible level of accuracy, allowing you to relive the experience and even customize your settings just as if it were being played natively on your PC.
Browser Gaming Is All The Rage These Days
While the novelty of playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 zombies in a browser still hasn’t worn off just yet, the fan-made project is only the newest release in a recent string of browser-based game ports, which allow you to play plenty of classics completely free.
With games like Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life, and even the original Halo: Combat Evolved getting browser ports, there’s no telling what game will show up next or how far players will be able to push the limits of what is capable to play all from the entirety of your browser.
