Carlos Alcaraz continues to make progress as he bids to make his comeback to tennis in the coming months.

However, for fans, it feels like he has been absent for an age.

The absence of his enigmatic, magical brand of tennis has certainly left the sport in a worse place, but has allowed the competitiveness of the ATP Tour to flourish.

At Roland Garros, we saw a brand-new Grand Slam champion crowned, as Alexander Zverev beat first-time major finalist Flavio Cobolli to secure that elusive title.

Is it time to start panicking about Carlos Alcaraz?

He’s out of another Grand Slam…

It has to be assumed that, had Carlos Alcaraz been present, he would have been heavily favoured to ensure this match-up never occurred.

Fortunately, we have a rough idea of when the Spaniard will be back, with this latest report offering some crucial details on the latest steps of his recovery.

The latest on Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist injury recovery

This information is provided by La Verdad, who suggest that Alcaraz is set for a new medical check-up with one Dr. Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro.

The former doctor of Rafael Nadal and the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, it’s expected that progress with the wrist is moving along nicely, with the 23-year-old having already been pictured without his splint whilst running.

An MRI scan is planned to check the extent of the healing and to determine the next steps.

Alcaraz has already begun working with the racket again in his academy in El Palmar, but has yet to actually start hitting.

It’s obvious that the next steps will be to clear him for just that, and to start sharpening him back up to tour-level fitness once again.

What other ATP stars have withdrawn from Wimbledon?

Whilst Alcaraz withdrawing from Wimbledon represents the biggest casualty by some distance, there are still plenty of other stars whose absence will be felt heavily.

Lorenzo Musetti likely represents the next biggest blow for the event, as a former semi-finalist at the event and a top 20 player.

Also, the dangerously in-form Valentin Vacherot will miss Wimbledon as well, marking a disappointing roadblock in what has been a great year of progress for the Monegasque star.

Other absentees include Tomas Machac, Seb Korda and Arthur Cazaux.
