“Closest he’ll be to game action all day,” one person said.
“This man is always doing something meme worthy,” another fan said.
The New York Giants acquired McCarthy on September 28, 2026, after losing starting quarterback Jaxson Dart to a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Backup Jameis Winston has been taking on the role of starting quarterback for the time being.
“Bro is trying to become 1 with the field,” one fan guessed.
“me every Sunday after the conclusion of the 4pm games,” one person who could relate to McCarthy said.
“I’d be worried about lightning,” said one fan who wouldn’t consider doing this.
There were fans on X who were quite familiar with JJ McCarthy’s pregame ritual of sitting on the field alone. The New York Giants quarterback also sat alone on the field when he played for the Michigan Wolverines.
“Yeah make fun of him for something he does all the time,” said one fan who knew of McCarthy’s pregame ritual.
“Sitting in the rain is a ritual, not a cry for help. He did this at Michigan too,” said another.
“This is basically his routine he’s huge into spirituality,” one person said on X.

JJ McCarthy’s work ethic praised by Giants OC
JJ McCarthy has been hard at work learning the New York Giants offense, according to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. The Giants offensive coordinator shared this information with reporters on Thursday ahead of the team’s matchup against the Commanders on Sunday.
“I would say it’s an A+. He’s doing really well. That’s as best I can put it. You look back seven days ago, we were up here having the same conversation.” He continued by saying, “So, at the same point in time, J.J. is spending a lot of time trying to learn everything, so that part has been great. Proud of him. But this is the beginning, but I’d say A+ right now,” Nagy told reporters on Thursday.
McCarthy was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the tenth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Due to injuries, he made just ten starts during his tenure with the team.
