Coco Gauff booked her spot in the Canadian Open quarter-finals for the fourth time in her career after overcoming the challenge of Russian youngster Alina Korneeva.
Gauff, the American number two, broke Korneeva’s serve seven times en route to her 6-3, 6-1 victory in Toronto.
The American star will play Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the last eight.

As per statisticians OptaAce, Gauff is now the first player since 1990 to reach 20 quarterfinals in hard-court Tier I/WTA-1000 events before turning 23 years old.
Gauff made her first quarter-final appearance at a hard-court WTA 1000 event at the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships.
She ended up losing to Swiss player Jill Teichmann in the last eight.
Since then, the American has made quarter-final appearances at various other hard-court WTA 1000 tournaments, including in Doha, Beijing, Wuhan, Guadalajara and Indian Wells.
Following last night’s victory, Gauff has now made 26 WTA 1000 quarter-final appearances in total.

Gauff will look to secure her 16th semi-final appearance at the WTA 1000 level when she takes on Belinda Bencic in the Canadian Open quarter-finals later this week.

Gauff can take great confidence heading into Tuesday’s quarter-final clash as she has won her last four matches against Belinda Bencic.
Gauff, who has a 6-2 record against the Swiss player, was last beaten by Bencic at the 2025 Indian Wells Open.
Since then, Gauff has triumphed over Bencic in Madrid, Beijing, Miami, and at Wimbledon.
Gauff secured her fourth straight victory against Bencic in the Wimbledon fourth round earlier this summer, triumphing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Gauff won the match at 10:58pm – two minutes before the 11pm Wimbledon curfew.
“I’m super happy to be in the quarters finally,” Gauff said afterwards, as per the Wimbledon website. “I don’t know how many tries it’s been. I was looking at the clock the last service game. I was like ‘I gotta hit some big serves and big shots.’
“That match point I was going for a serve and volley because I was like, ‘I need to end the point’.
“This was probably the most dramatic finish. I’ve never had to race against time. Playing tennis we’re used to not having a clock. But today I felt the pressure. I’m glad I didn’t choose basketball.”
