Another upcoming wave of Magic: The Gathering Commander precons is here, and we’re taking a closer look at the Doom Prevails product in this guide, covering the newly revealed deck list to take a closer look at the cards and deck synergies.
This Marvel Super Heroes deck will bring back Connive, a mechanic first introduced in Streets of New Capenna. Pair this with life drain mechanics, and potentially some graveyard interactions, and you’ve got, on paper, a brilliant new Commander precon that is on course to be the best of the bunch.
Doom Previals Deck List
The full Marvel Super Heroes Commander deck list for this precon is out now, and it’s looking mighty impressive. I had my suspicions prior to the preview season that this deck would be the strongest of the four new precons, and it appears as though that instinct was correct.

Magic: The Gathering – Marvel’s Super Heroes Commander Deck Guide
These new Marvel Commander decks will come in base and collector’s editions, with four of each type to collect.
Commander Breakdown
Doctor Doom, King of Latveria, leans heavily into the Connive mechanic, which lets you draw a card, discard a card, then place a +1/+1 counter on the creature that activated the ability if the card you discard is nonland.
Whenever you discard one or more land cards, however, each opponent at the table loses two life if Doctor Doom is on the battlefield. This card essentially rewards you in some fashion, regardless of the card you discard when conniving.
Then, at the beginning of combat, a target Villain creature you control gains menace until the end of the turn, and it connives.
Loki, the Deciever, is the backup Commander for this deck and is arguably one of the best face Commanders from this set, being much more impactful than many others from across the three other decks.
He’s a four-mana (1U, 1R, 1B, 1C) 4/4 creature who creates a tapped and attacking token that’s a copy of another target Villain you control, except it isn’t legendary and is an Illusion in addition to its other types. It is sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step.
Then, whenever one or more Villains you control deal damage to an opponent, you draw a card.
Strategy
We already know Connive will play a big role in this deck. The mechanic isn’t too widespread, with only 35 cards featuring the keyword as of the release of Secrets of Strixhaven, but it’s back with a bang in Marvel Super Heroes and plays a central role among Villains.
This mechanic relies on you discarding nonland cards to boost creatures that feature the keyword, but to ensure that you’re not just discarding cards for good, there’s likely to be some interaction with your graveyard to offset the impact.
The other mechanic listed on the box of this deck is “Drain Life,” which is pretty straightforward. It is, however, quite strange to see Connive and Life Drain linked within the same deck, as they’re not two mechanics that are all that closely tied together, so we’re keen to see how well the two mesh in this precon.
