Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has provided a positive update a few weeks after his knee injury.

Five and a half weeks after knee surgery to repair his torn ACL and meniscus, “The Notorious” has already stopped using crutches.

After going under the knife, McGregor is off the crutch sooner than the doctors had expected, and even swelling post-surgery has gone down, which is a good sign of recovery. During a recent sit-down with Mac Energy, “The Notorious” said:

“The swelling is down. I’m off the crutch after two or three weeks. In fact, I was able to get off the crutch sooner than they had wished.”

McGregor has no intention of rushing back to the octagon. In fact, he has stated that he will take 9-12 months to fully recover before a potential return.

Conor McGregor also claimed during the same interview that the octagon floor was wet on July 11, but he ignored it:

“When I stepped into the octagon, this f*cking bed of dry ice what was this? I stepped into the octagon and it was wet… I had this in my head: ‘I’m not even looking, I’m going’. That’s not true martial arts. Use your brain, use your vision, use your mechanics… It is what it is, it happens. It’s the fight game.”

The Irishman also added that his plan was to charge across the octagon and throw a wild roundhouse kick at Max Holloway to crack the Hawaiian’s jaw:

“I just had to set in my head, I don’t care, when this bell rings, last time I had one leg snapped in half, I want to run forward and try fly across the octagon and crack him in the jaw.”

However, things did not go as planned for “The Notorious.” Holloway dodged the kick, after which McGregor landed awkwardly and injured his knee. McGregor then struggled to stay on his feet and repeatedly kept falling to the ground. Holloway pointed out to referee Mike Beltran that the former UFC double champ was injured.

After seeing that McGregor could not put pressure on his lead leg or even move properly, referee Mike Beltran called for the stoppage after just 69 seconds.

During the same interview with Mac Energy, McGregor blasted Max Holloway for not finishing the bout and asking the referee to stop it. He quipped:

“It wasn’t me calling for the finish of the fight… Finish the f**king fight. You’re the man calling for the fight to be stopped. The fight has only begun.”
