Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has issued a statement after his unfortunate TKO loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329.

The UFC’s biggest draw returned to the octagon on July 11 after a five-year hiatus to run it back with Holloway. While fans and spectators had expected at least a couple of rounds of action, McGregor injured his knee right after the fight began and was struggling to remain standing. Hence, the ref had to call the stoppage after just 69 seconds.

After the fight was stopped, a dejected McGregor did not wait for the octagon interview with Joe Rogan and was seen leaving the arena limping.

Sources suggest that McGregor has suffered a “right-knee internal injury.”

After the UFC 329 loss, “The Notorious,” via X, shared that he had no injuries while training and was absolutely fresh before the fight. However, now, his knee is destroyed after landing the very risky jumping roundhouse kick. The 37-year-old wrote:

“My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injury/injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell.”

Conor McGregor Does Not Plan to Retire

Conor McGregor has assured fans that he will return stronger despite suffering back-to-back injuries and losses. If the latest knee injury is severe, the Irishman can be sidelined for more than a year. And if not, fans can expect him to return to action in approximately 6 months. He posted on X:

“I was so sharp and so ready for this fight. I cannot believe what has happened. The talk of me being off while walking into the fight is nonsense. I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock at what has taken place. The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow. I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return.”

Max Holloway has already called out “The Notorious,” especially after how their UFC 329 rematch ended. “Blessed” would love to get a real win over McGregor and is game to wait until next year for a potential trilogy bout.
