Wizards of the Coast originally released Magic: The Gathering crossovers at a slow and steady pace, but four Universes Beyond sets are coming in 2026 alone, meaning the floodgates have well and truly opened, for better or worse.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive guide to all the Universes Beyond sets, listed in order of worst to best, then we’ve got you covered. Each set is ranked based on the originality, quality of the cards, interest in the release, and the impact of the cards on the MTG landscape (in the case of Commander/Standard set releases).
Updated on June 21, 2026, by Niall Walsh: The TMNT and Marvel Super Heroes sets have now been added to this list, and we’re no longer going to be adding minor Secret Lair drops, as WotC has largely ignored counting these as part of Universes Beyond for some time. Should an IP receive a Secret Lair but then return for a full UB set, or additional products, we will then add it to the list.

Marvel’s Spider-Man
Full Standard Set – 2025
Where do we even begin with the Spider-Man set? This disaster of a release didn’t even make it to MTG Arena due to licensing issues, leading to widespread confusion in the community. On top of this, what was supposed to be a smaller set became a full Standard release, resulting in cards that felt rushed and uninspiring, and failing to synergize well with existing Standard sets or function well as a standalone product.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was the fact that this set ended up pushing back the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed, a hugely anticipated original MTG set, and it came in the middle of a major ramp-up in new products, leaving players feeling burnt out and slighted by the expectation to invest in new products so often.

Magic: The Gathering – Every Mechanically Unique Secret Lair Card That Hasn’t Been Reprinted
Magic: The Gathering has plenty of mechanically unique cards that have only seen one printing and there’s no guarantee that they’ll be reprinted.

Tomb Raider
Secret Lair Drop – 2023
Coming exclusively as a Secret Lair Drop, the Tomb Raider Universes Beyond focuses on the remake games of the long-running Tomb Raider series. The main draw of this Drop is Lara Croft, Tomb Raider herself. This mechanically unique card focuses on legendary artifacts and lands, returning them from your graveyard and exiling them with a discovery counter, a new type of counter that comes with this card. You can then play cards from exile if they have one of these counters.
- Lara Croft, Tomb Raider
- Heart of the Explorer // The Lost Valley
- Storms of Yamatai
- The Grim Whisper
- Totec’s Spear
- Kitezh, Sunken City
- Treasure token
The drop has yet to make its way to a Universes Within version, so the only way you can play with the Lara Croft card is if you got it from this drop.

Clue
Secret Lair Drop – 2024
A rather interesting entry to the Universes Beyond series, the Ravnica: Clue Edition is a multiplayer variant of the game, providing you and three to four friends to get together and try to solve a mystery while also playing a game of Magic.
- Guildmage Boddy
- Headliner Scarlett
- Commander Mustard
- Apothecary White
- Emissary Green
- Senator Peacock
- Mastermind Plum
All the characters from the original Clue game, including Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard, all make their way into the game, this time getting some fantastic reimaginings as if they were characters from Ravnica. Each of these Clue characters is a legendary creature and a mechanically unique card, complementing a slew of other mechanically unique cards mixed into the set.

Hatsune Miku
Secret Lair Drop – 2024
The incredibly popular Vocaloid Hatsune Miku joins Magic: The Gathering’s extended universe with three Secret Lair Drops. Artwork for these Drops contains artwork from fans from all across the world, so each card has a unique style and feel to it.

There is a fourth Secret Lair Drop scheduled to release sometime in 2024, but the details on that release are scant.
All of these Drops feature either alternate art reprints or reskins of cards; no mechanically unique cards are found among the Drops. Interestingly, in the Electric Entourage set, there’s a Vocaloid named KAITO, which is a reskinned borderless version of Jace, Unraveler of Secrets, and not Kaito Shizuki, the actual character from the Magic universe.
There are strong rumors of a new Hatsune Miku Commander deck arriving as part of Secret Lair, which could raise the stock of this Universes Beyond crossover when it is released.

Monty Python
Secret Lair Drop – 2024
The iconic humor of Monty Python and the Holy Grail might not be your first thought when you picture a Universes Beyond set, but these two Secret Lair Drops feature a total of nine reskinned cards, each one depicting a different scene from the film.

Perhaps the deepest cut of any Secret Lair or Universes Beyond is the inclusion of Tim the Enchanter, which is a reskinned version of Prodigal Sorcerer. This card was nicknamed Tim since its original artwork resembled the character Tim the Enchanter from the film.

Ghostbusters
Secret Lair Drop – 2024
Ten reskinned cards make up the two Ghostbusters Universes Beyond Secret Lair Drops based on the classic comedy movie starring Bill Murry, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver.

Curiously, the Ghostbusters Secret Lairs don’t actually showcase any of these actors. Instead, the Slimer features five cards based on the gluttonous green ghost, while The Real Ghostbusters Drop is based on the cartoon.

Child’s Play
Secret Lair Drop – 2024
Horror fans got another Universes Beyond with the release of the Child’s Play Secret Lair Drop. This horror movie franchise focuses on Chucky, a doll who becomes possessed by the soul of a serial killer after a voodoo ritual transfers his soul into the doll to escape death.
- Chucky
- Sorry Jack …, Chucky’s Back
- Tiffany, Bride of Chucky
- Friend to the End
- Play Pals Factory
This five-card Secret Lair features reskinned cards and includes two legendary creatures: Chucky, who is a reskinned version of Kardur, Doomscourge, and then one of Tiffany, who is a reskinned Barragoth, Bloodsky Sire.

SpongeBob SquarePants
Secret Lair – 2025
Sadly, this SpongeBob-themed Secret Lair contained no original cards, and while the artwork was fun, it felt more like a cash-grab meme release than something that would have any impact on Magic in the long-term.

The Princess Bride
Secret Lair Drop – 2023
A mix of reskinned cards and alternate arts, The Princess Bride Universes Beyond collection brings nine cards depicting both characters from the film, like Princess Buttercup and Westly, as well as some of the most iconic scenes, including the Battle of Wits between Vizzini and the Dread Pirate Roberts.
- Buttercup, Provincial Princess
- Silence
- Battle of Wits
- Vizzini, Criminal Mastermind
- Rodents of Unusual Size
- Westley, Dread Pirate Roberts
- Fezzik, Rhyming Giant
- Inigo, Avenging Swordsman
- Miracle Max, Unemployed
Each card has flavor text that are quotes from the film, like Inigo Montoya’s classic, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
