In an interview with French outlet L’Equipe, Fontang said: “After last year’s Masters 1000 in Toronto we had a conversation.

“We have considered adding another figure to the team for the 2026 season or ending our collaboration at the end of 2025, in case the desired results have not arrived.

“However, given that Felix finished the season in fifth place in the world rankings, it was natural to continue together.

“After Roland Garros, we decided that we would separate at the end of Wimbledon, closing our journey on a positive note.

“The defeat against Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros may have accelerated this decision.

“There was a real possibility of reaching the semifinals, if not the final, because the draw was very favourable.

“It was a big disappointment for him, of course, but also for all our staff. However, we ended our journey together after his two best seasons.

“He is currently number 4 in the world, he has managed to reach the quarterfinals in all Grand Slam tournaments and Masters 1000, as well as playing two Grand Slam semifinals. What we missed was winning a Grand Slam title and making yet another leap in quality.”

Auger-Aliassime’s Grand Slam season started with a first round exit at the 2026 edition of the Australian Open.

There, he was forced to retire during his opening clash with Nuno Borges due to cramp.
