A recently crowned WWE Women’s Champion has talked about being compared by Triple H to a beloved AEW veteran shortly after her moment of triumph at SummerSlam 2026. The star in question, Chelsea Green, expressed the pride she felt over The Game drawing parellels between her rise to the top and Bryan Danielson’s before her.
On Night 2 of SummerSlam this past Sunday, Chelsea Green took part in a Ladder Match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship. Despite a stacked field of opponents to contend against, including Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend and Charlotte Flair, the titular face of The Green Regime was able to win the bout and capture the Women’s Title, securing her first World Championship in the Stamford-based company.
The 35-year-old’s ascent to her current spot in WWE was undoubtedly made possible through her exceptional character work for the past several years, which has garnered her a loyal and vocal fanbase. During a recent conversation with Complex Graps, Green revealed that WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H had compared her rise to that of AEW’s Bryan Danielson’s during the peak of the “Yes Movement”, as well as to that of Kofi Kingston’s, and his unforgettable chase of the WWE Title enroute to WrestleMania 35.
“I would be so narcissistic to be comparing myself to somebody so incredible. But of course once the world told me that, and actually, Triple H pulled me aside and told me that. He compared me to the likes of Daniel Bryan and Kofi. I was like, ‘Wow, what an amazing group to be put into.’”
Chelsea proceeded to elaborate on this comparison by acknowledging how her fans have been insistent about wanting WWE creative to utilize her better, stating:
“The fact that whatever comes my way is coming my way because the fans have literally strong armed creative and the company into giving me these things. I mean, I don’t want to downplay my hard work, but at the end of the day, they have been steering the ship for the past couple of months.” [H/T- @WrestlePurists on X]
Chelsea Green shared AEW legend Mick Foley’s reaction to her title win
Elsewhere in the same interview, Chelsea Green revealed that a number of wrestling veterans and legends, including Torrie Wilson, Leilani Kai, X-PAC, and current AEW personality Mick Foley, had reached out to her to share their heartfelt reactions to her Interim WWE Women’s Title win at SummerSlam 2026. The Canadian star even claimed to have received a text message from Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy, stating:
“I got a text from Mick Foley the other day. Obviously, everyone knows I love Mick Foley. But, I didn’t realize how much this also meant to the old school guys… If you asked me 12 years ago, hey, will Mick Foley and X-Pac and Leilani and Torrie and all these Hall of Famers be texting you, telling you that they were crying? Sending you pictures of them crying!? I would’ve thought you were crazy.”
Like Bryan Danielson, Foley currently makes appearances in AEW as a broadcast personality. Another AEW-ROH name, Green’s former tag partner Deonna Purrazzo, composed a touching social media post in response to her close friend’s success shortly after SummerSlam.
