One of the most enthralling transfer sagas this summer looks like it will centre around Argentine forward Julián Alvarez. This Thursday, it was revealed that Barcelona are in talks over a deal to sign the Atlético Madrid attacker. The Catalan side are reportedly preparing a formal offer of around €100 million for the 26-year-old. Barcelona have already made contact with Alvarez’s camp and are in discussions with Atlético, who are thought to be demanding a higher fee for the forward.

Barcelona are also on the verge of signing Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, who is flying to Spain today. Alvarez is expected to be keen on a move to Barcelona, but there are lots of other top clubs also still competing for his signature. He is one of the most sought-after players on the market. Here at Transfermarkt, we have picked out four clubs who could sign Alvarez this summer.

Barcelona

As aforementioned, Barca are pushing for a deal, and Alvarez is thought to be keen. However, the LaLiga side’s financial issues have been well documented over the past few years and laying out such a huge fee could potentially be beyond their means. Nevertheless, Barcelona are seeking to sign a striker to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski, who is leaving Camp Nou as a free agent.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta is a known admirer of Alvarez, with Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone having already revealed that Arsenal were one of his suitors. Arsenal owner Josh Kroenke has also already revealed the club won’t ‘sit still’ this summer and Arteta will be given funds to bring in reinforcements after the Gunners huge success this season, which has culminated in the Premier League title and a Champions League final. Alvarez could be the man to unlock their attack and take them to the next level.

PSG

Other reports also suggest that Paris Saint-Germain have made a more direct pitch to the player with wages, and have signalled that they are willing to pay Atlético’s reported asking price of €125m. PSG already have a potent front-line, but winger Bradley Barcola is expected to potentially move on this summer, which could free up a place for Alvarez in Paris.

Bayern Munich

Another European giant, who could look to make a statement and add Alvarez to their armoury could be German side Bayern Munich. They also already have a formidable attack with Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luís Díaz, but the former is getting older and club chiefs may see Alvarez as a player that can take the club back to Champions League glory.
