A giant inflatable World Cup soccer ball broke free during heavy winds, turning incoming traffic into a game of Rocket League, whether drivers wanted to play or not.
On June 14, a massive inflatable version of “La Trionda”, the official ball of the 2026 World Cup, broke loose during a storm in San Salvador.
According to reports, the ball was ripped from its anchors at the Bambu shopping center and traveled into the streets.
For drivers, the giant rolling ball became a huge hazard, but at least one driver couldn’t help but hit it, turning the road into a game of Rocket League.
Truck driver plays Rocket League IRL with massive World Cup ball
In footage of the runaway World Cup ball, drivers tried to dodge the object by braking or speeding past it, but one truck driver may have seen a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and took advantage.
As the ball approached, the driver appeared to steer into it, using their vehicle to dribble the giant La Trionda up the front and bounce off the roof.
From there, the driver drove away from the ball, leaving it to continue down the road. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.
Videos of the spectacle have gone viral, amassing millions of views and viewers couldn’t help but make the comparison to Rocket League.
“You see a giant inflatable World Cup ball rolling around. I see the opportunity to play Rocket League in real life,” Barstool Sports said on X.
“I’d be boosting straight into traffic,” another chimed in.
This is just the latest in a series of viral moments during the World Cup so far. Earlier, Japanese fans won over the hearts of everyone across the globe by cleaning up the stadium after their 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic kicked IShowSpeed from the World Cup set after the YouTuber predicted his favorite footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, would win the tournament for Portugal.
