This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
One of the biggest announcements of tonight’s State of Play was the reveal of the long-rumoured next God of War game which, as was previously leaked, stars Faye.
Even though it really hasn’t been that long since the last God of War game, 2022’s Ragnarok, that hasn’t stopped the last few months feeling like a big resurgence for the series. Earlier this year, not only did we get a brand-new game in the form of Sons of Sparta, but it was also confirmed that the first three games in the series were getting a remake.
That was exciting enough, but it still left us all wondering what Cory Barlog, the director of 2018’s God of War, and his team were cooking behind the scenes. For some time now, it’s been rumoured that it’s a new God of War starring Kratos’ wife Faye, which finally got confirmed during tonight’s State of Play.
The Rumoured God Of War Faye Has Finally Been Revealed
A Greek Trilogy Remake Isn’t All That Fans Have To Look Forward To
Tonight’s State of Play had plenty of big announcements, but the new God of War game was by far one of the biggest. I’d love to say that it was a surprise, but that’s sadly not the case since it’s been rumoured for some time and was detailed by NateTheHate just a few months ago. Now, after so long, it ended tonight’s State of Play with a whopping 15 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay.
I Can Understand Remaking The Original God Of War, But The Entire Trilogy Feels Like Overkill
Sony Santa Monica has confirmed it will be remaking three legendary God of War titles.
Even if the new God of War wasn’t a surprise, it was still a great showstopper for the State of Play. The gameplay started with Faye waking up in a strange new land after being cremated by Kratos and Atreus, suggesting she’s in another realm. We then got to see Faye’s combat style, which is much more mobile and almost resembles a hack-and-slash with all the launchers and mobility.
The cube companion that Faye meets in the footage has to be Jack Quaid, right?
Although a lot of the gameplay footage was really just lengthy cutscenes introducing us to the new world that Faye finds herself in, it was still a great showcase of Sony Santa Monica’s next entry in the God of War universe. After 15 minutes of gameplay, the showcase finished with the reveal new game is officially called God of War: Laufey, with no clear release window right now.
