ArenaNet has revealed Guild Wars 3, marking the first new entry in the MMORPG franchise since Guild Wars 2 launched in 2012.
Set more than 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars, the game takes players to the Tyrian region of Orr, a vast wilderness frontier infused with magic. Various guilds are locked in conflict over how the land’s resources should be used, while powerful nature spirits known as Vael spirits inhabit the region.
Players take on the role of a Vaelwarden, a member of a guild dedicated to protecting Orr and its spirits. The game will feature the deep character customization and skill-building gameplay the series is known for, allowing players to shape their own adventures across the open world.
New details were also shared about movement and combat. Each player will be accompanied by a Seeker, a spirit-linked mount that serves as a connection to the world of Orr. Combat has been designed around movement and positioning, with players able to build momentum as they transition between different movement modes before turning that speed into more powerful attacks.
Guild Wars 3 will be the first game in the franchise to launch on home consoles, with releases confirmed for PS5, PC, and Steam. The first beta test is scheduled for fall 2027, with sign-ups available now.
Game director Colin Johanson described the project as “a new era” for both the studio and the franchise, saying the team’s goal is “to push MMORPGs forward” by creating a world that feels “believable, rewarding, responsive, and innovative” while respecting players’ time and encouraging community building.
