Has there ever been a bigger fight week than the UFC America 250 fight week at the White House? We think not, and there’s so much going on that it’s easy to miss some of the spectacle. That’s why we’ve decided to start collecting all the weird, wonderful, and sometimes just WTF moments happening around Washington D.C. as mixed martial arts takes over the capitol.
UFC CEO and president Dana White has reminded us many times: this isn’t just a cage fighting event. It isn’t just an event that happens to fall on U.S. president Donald Trump’s birthday. This is the beginning of a month long celebration of America’s 250th birthday! That means there’s marching bands, marine drill platoons, the Golden Knights skydivers, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Nitro Circus dirt bikes, giant bald eagles, and on and on!
There’s a ton of things to see at the White House and the Ellipse, which is the park below the White House where tens of thousands of fans have gathered over the past few days to enjoy the festivities. How much have you, the average non-D.C. resident, gotten to enjoy? Not much, we bet, other than a bunch of online think-pieces about how ‘America bad’ and ‘Trump cage fight dumb!’ Yes, yes, we’ve heard it all. We might even agree with some of the criticisms. But this thing is happening now, so you might as well strap in and witness the spectacle.
We’ll be updating this post for the remainder of the day with more happenings from around the UFC White House event in Washington D.C. as they happen. If it’s going down outside the South Lawn arena, we’ll feature it here with the newest content appearing at the top of this post.
As for the fights themselves, they kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and we’ll have all the highlights for you as well at MMA Mania.
