Iva Jovic brought the curtain down on Alexandra Eala’s US Open campaign earlier this week.

The American youngster, 18, defeated Eala 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in the US Open third round.

Despite defeat, Eala can look back on her 2026 campaign with pride. She has made great strides, all while managing the gargantuan weight of expectation that has landed on her shoulders.

Will Alex Eala win a Grand Slam in 2027?

If so, which one does she take?

Eala has performed particularly well in the biggest moments, especially at Grand Slam events.

Alexandra Eala has massively improved her results at Grand Slams from 2025 to 2026

In 2025, Alex Eala won only one match in the main draw of a Grand Slam.

That victory came at the US Open when she defeated 14th seed Clara Tauson 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 in the first round.

By doing so, Eala became the first Filipina in tennis history to win a main draw match at a Grand Slam.

The Filipina was then knocked out of the event by Spaniard Cristina Bucsa.

  • Australian Open: first round of qualifying
  • Roland Garros: first round
  • Wimbledon: first round
  • US Open: second round

Alex Eala began her 2026 Grand Slam journey in similar fashion, failing to win a match at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.

Eala was defeated by Alycia Parks and Iva Jovic, respectively.

Eala refused to let these losses weigh her down as she went on to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The youngster triumphed against Renata Zarazua, Maya Joint and Iga Swiatek before losing to 2024 finalist Jasmine Paolini.

The 21-year-old continued her fine Grand Slam form in New York, reaching the third round.

“What I learned tonight, I have yet to process, but what I know for sure is that I left everything out there,” Eala said after her loss to Jovic in New York.

“I fought through the ups and downs, moments where I wasn’t playing so good, [and] moments where I was playing really good.

“What I know for a fact is that I fought, so I’m happy with that,”

Elise Mertens won the title, beating Ann Li in the final.

This year’s event is set to take place from September 21 to 27 at the OCBC Arena in The Kallang.

Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Mirra Andreeva are also set to participate.
