Joao Fonseca saw his Wimbledon run come to a surprise end in the third round.
Fonseca reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland Garros last month, but the Brazilian had struggled with a shoulder injury since then.
Despite this, the 19-year-old was able to reach the third round of Wimbledon without dropping a set, and he looked on track for a fourth round meeting against Novak Djokovic, who Fonseca beat at Roland Garros.
However, it was not to be for Fonseca, who was beaten by qualifier Roman Safiullin 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 and he has now reflected on his defeat.

As many players often do, Fonseca has taken to social media following his exit from Wimbledon this year.
In a post on his Instagram, Fonseca was full of praise for Safiullin, before admitting that he needs to make improvements on grass, having also lost in the third round of Wimbledon last year.
“Tough match today, all credit to my opponent, who pressured me from start to finish,” wrote Fonseca.
“I know I have things to improve on grass, but it was another positive week, where I gave it my all and which motivates me even more for the rest of the season. Time to head home, recharge, and go all out again.”

With Fonseca falling in the third round, it now means that it will be Safiullin who faces 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in the fourth round instead.
This will be a fourth meeting between Djokovic and Safiullin, with the former winning all three of their previous matches in straight sets.

After playing just one tournament on the surface, Fonseca’s grass court season is now over after his Wimbledon defeat.
Fonseca will now switch his attention to the North American hard court swing, but it is unclear as to what his next tournament will be.
As of now, Fonseca has not been announced for the Washington Open, with it assumed that he will be playing at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open.
