Carlos Alcaraz’s former mentor, Juan Carlos Ferrero, recently revealed he will begin coaching a new player in 2027, whom he will announce in November.
Alcaraz and Ferrero shockingly parted ways in December last year, bringing an end to an incredibly successful seven-year partnership that resulted in six Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz’s former assistant coach, Samuel Lopez, assumed the role of head coach in the 23-year-old’s team following the split with Ferrero.
Since Ferrero’s departure, Alcaraz has gone on to complete the Career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open and has titles in Doha and Japan.

Juan Carlos Ferrero speaks about Carlos Alcaraz a year after split
Describing his current relationship with Alcaraz in an interview with La Vanguardia, Ferrero said: “Nothing is ever truly forgotten, but time heals all wounds. I think we’ve come to terms with what happened. We have to leave the drama behind. Everything is fine.”
Ferrero’s first encounter with Alcaraz came when the seven-time major champion was just 12 years old. “I was told to go to Murcia to watch him play,” Ferrero said. “I did. I went, and he lost. But I liked his competitive spirit.
Jannik Sinner is set to hire Magnus Norman as his next coach – is this the right move? 🤔
Who would you have hired to be Sinner’s next coach?
“He immediately challenged 23- or 24-year-old players. I saw an opportunity there. I brought it up at home, we brought him to the academy, and we started from scratch with spectacular raw talent.” Asked if he thought Alcaraz would ever become what he is today, Ferrero replied: “I haven’t seen anyone with his qualities.
“Roger (Federer) had impressive ones, but Carlos is physically superior. I see a mix of the Big Three: Nadal’s physical and mental capacity, Djokovic’s shots and consistency, and Federer’s magic. Mentally, he still lacks a bit of that stamina to maintain that level all the time. Little by little, maturity is giving him that consistency.”

Juan Carlos Ferrero will not coach Jannik Sinner in 2027
There was plenty of speculation around Ferrero’s next coaching gig, with many wondering whether he was set to take Alcaraz’s biggest rival, Jannik Sinner, under his wing. Sinner was looking for a new coach as Darren Cahill was due to leave the Italian’s team at the end of the season.
But Sinner has since appointed Magnus Norman for his 2027 campaign, the 50-year-old Swede who guided Stan Wawrinka to three Grand Slam titles in an era dominated by Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Norman’s time with Wawrinka has officially come to an end, with the Swiss having played the final match of his career at the Basel Open. Ferrero said he will officially announce the player he is going to work with next on November 9.
