With the 2026 ATP season now at the halfway point, the question of who will join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the top of men’s tennis remains unanswered.
While Alcaraz has been injured for a large portion of the year, the so-called ‘new two’ have still dominated this year.
The Spaniard became the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open earlier this year and added a 26th ATP title to his name by winning the Qatar Open.

Sinner, on the other hand, has won every ATP Masters 1000 title in 2026 and recently became a five-time Grand Slam champion by capturing a second consecutive Wimbledon crown.
With the rest of the pack continuing to chase the pair, former British number one Kyle Edmund thinks there is one player who is truly capable of challenging them.
Kyle Edmund backs Jack Draper to challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Asked by tennis legend Jim Courier in an episode of Beyond The Numbers to pick the ‘third guy’ to compete with Sinner and Alcaraz, Edmund chose his compatriot, Jack Draper.
Edmund said: “I think the guy who’s got that level on their day is Draper. It’s hard to know right now where he stands because he needs to spend some consistent time on court, but before, he had the ability and the game.
“That actual power and danger. Weapons. You need weapons to beat these guys, and he had that. So it’s a shame that he’s not here but I believe he has that.
“He’s one guy there. The other guys that have been knocking around for a while, like Felix [Auger-Aliassime], are close. Rublev has been around for a while.
How concerned are you that injuries could disrupt Jack Draper from reaching his full potential?
“De Minaur is missing something, which, you know, he’s the type of player who will be working extremely hard on that.
“I think lower down, for me, the guys I’ve seen that have that potential are [Joao] Fonseca and [Rafael] Jodar.
“They seem really exciting. They can build those weapons. Once they get a bit more experience, tour experience, week in, week out travelling, I think they can prove dangerous for the future.”
Jim Courier has high praise for Arthur Fils
In response, Courier said: “I agree with all of those. I’m gonna throw in Arthur Fils as well. He has just put Goran Ivanisevic on his team, so his serve is going to improve.
“We know Goran improves everybody’s serve by lowering their ball toss and giving them better rhythm, so expect that to come.
“He moves great. He’s got a bomb forehand. He had the fastest forehand on tour last year in 2025.
“Again, we need some of these young guys to be healthy. It might be Musetti, who had some deep runs too.
“He’s another guy who is just beautiful to watch. On the clay, we could easily see him winning a couple of Roland Garros [titles]. He plays well on grass too.”
Arthur Fils, just 22 years of age, is currently ranked 22nd in the world, having been as high as 14th.
