Alexander Zverev has fallen short in yet another Grand Slam final after losing to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon.

Zverev now has a 1-4 win-loss record in Grand Slam finals, and has blown leads in three of the four finals he has lost.

The latest was a thrilling Wimbledon final against Sinner, who triumphed 6-7(7-9), 7-6(7-2), 6-3, 6-4 for his fifth Grand Slam title.

The match has now been analyzed by legendary figures Jim Courier and Martina Navratilova, who have identified where they think the German went wrong against the Italian.

Martina Navratilova says Alexander Zverev was too far behind the baseline vs Jannik Sinner

Courier said on Tennis Channel: “You could see it in his post-match comments that he is still riding on that cloud of joy from winning at Roland Garros and the relief that his career is now going to be in his mind a success because he’s a major champ to go along with that gold medal.

“One takeaway that I will have, the one break point that he had today. The story is going to be, and we’ve highlighted it multiple times, that he slipped and that cost him a chance in that point.

“But he made mistakes prior to that. He sliced a couple of shots in that rally. He was hoping for help instead of taking it.

“And if he wants to have more success against someone like a Jannik Sinner, you cannot afford to ask for help. You’ve got to take what’s yours, and he didn’t right there.”

And Navratilova commented: “He shouldn’t have been that far back behind the baseline. You really are hoping at that point, and I want to compare when Zverev slipped, he hurt himself a little bit, but he was okay.

“When Sinner slipped, he got up and still won the point. And I think that goes back to how good his balance is.

“I think it goes back to skiing, because always when you ski you have to keep fighting for that middle of the foot.

“You have to be really well-balanced, and his balance is unbelievable for somebody that tall. He’s nimble.”

Zverev confirmed he overextended his knee during that slip at the back of the court in the third set, when he was immediately helped to his feet by his opponent.

Sinner also suffered a slip in the third set of the final, but in stark contrast to his rival, was able to recover quickly and win the point, much to the frustration of Zverev.

Jannik Sinner celebrates another Wimbledon title on Instagram

It was another superb effort from Sinner, who was quick to celebrate his latest Grand Slam title on social media.

Sharing his delight on Instagram, the Italian wrote simply: “We did it again. Thank you all for the love and support.”

And many within the tennis world are clearly delighted for Sinner, with his ATP rival Jakub Mensik commenting: “Back-to-back.”

Meanwhile, American WTA stars Coco Gauff and Iva Jovic wrote: “Congratulations” and “Big congrats” respectively, while football ace Jude Bellingham said “Machine”.

Sinner also recovered from one set down to win last year’s Wimbledon final, where he beat Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
