MMA fans are taking shots at Dana White after the UFC president shared a post declaring, “The only real TOXIC MASCULINITY is the absence of MASCULINITY!!” The message quickly drew mockery, with critics pointing to White’s past remarks about men, mental health and public displays of emotion.
White posted the statement on Instagram, where he has built an audience of more than 11 million followers. The UFC president did not add context to the image, but the wording sparked a familiar debate around his view of what men should be.

Replies across X and Reddit were less impressed with the tough-guy message. One fan wrote, “Money cannot unlame you,” while another said, “Dana White is so corny im pretty sure it sounded better in his head.”
Others mocked the post’s delivery. “dies of Cringe,” one reaction read. Another added, “Ooooo my timbers are shivering.” A separate commenter wrote, “Ok Grandpa, let’s get you back inside.”
The criticism did not stop at jokes. Several fans raised White’s public incident with his wife, Anne White, during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Cabo San Lucas in 2022. Video showed the pair striking one another during an argument, with White later apologizing and saying there was “no excuse” for his conduct. That history was referenced in reactions including: “Dana slapped his wife he’s about as far from a real man as you can be.”
White has previously argued that men should keep mental-health struggles private. In one interview, he said he disliked the public discussion around men’s mental health, arguing that men are expected to provide and should avoid presenting sadness online.
He later doubled down, saying public conversations about mental-health issues could encourage young men to voice their problems openly. White said they should “handle it behind closed doors” and avoid showing “weakness” to others.
The pushback was not simply over White using the phrase “toxic masculinity.” Critics argued that the post presented masculinity as a fixed performance built around hostility, silence and intimidation. “These types think hostility, belligerence and ignorance are masculine traits. Meathead psychology at its worst,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “Other meatheads: whoa this guys serious!”
White has long positioned himself as a blunt, confrontational public figure, a style that has helped make him one of the most recognizable executives in combat sports. But his latest message landed as a punchline for many MMA fans, who saw the capital letters as doing more work than the point itself.
