Pokemon TCG collectors are divided over a mysterious Mew card marked “B/RGB” that was allegedly pulled from an unreleased 30th Celebration booster pack, with no official confirmation that it belongs to the set.
Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration launches simultaneously worldwide on September 16, 2026. The anniversary expansion features an entirely foil card lineup, 30 different Pikachu illustrations, classic reprints, and the new Futuristic rare rarity.
Each booster contains five foil cards, including one of the 30 Pikachu designs, alongside a foil Basic Energy and Pokemon TCG Live code card. Officially revealed Futuristic rare cards include Mew ex and Mewtwo ex illustrated by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN.
None of that prepared fans for another Mew design appearing during an early pack opening on Whatnot.
Australian Pokemon seller PokeAus’ secondary account, PokeAus Hits, opened the pack during a live break on July 25. The card was pulled for X user Akaneco_2323, who subsequently described themselves as its first owner.
“Oh my God. What is that?” the streamer said after revealing the unfamiliar Mew.
The physical card shown in the footage has 60 HP, a heavily textured blue foil design, a YOSHIROTTEN illustrator credit, and “B/RGB” printed where a conventional card number would normally appear. It also displays a multicolored circular symbol that has not appeared on another officially announced Pokemon card.
Why fans think the RGB Mew could be real
A longer version of the opening shows the pack being opened before Mew is revealed. The guaranteed Pikachu card is directly behind it, disproving early claims that the mystery card had simply replaced the Pikachu that should be included in every pack.
The artwork, texture, foil, fine print, and card layout also appear unusually detailed for a homemade proxy. Supporters argue that creating a physical fake of this quality, placing it inside a pack, and staging a livestream reaction would require considerably more effort than editing an image.
There are also several specific connections to YOSHIROTTEN. The artist illustrated the confirmed Futuristic rare Mew ex and Mewtwo ex cards, while his previous work includes an exhibition titled PHENOMENON: RGB.
Pokemon creator BRAYSH Gaming cited that connection while arguing the card was legitimate, writing: “The Mew is by YOSHIROTTEN, the same artist as the Mew and Mewtwo future cards confirmed.”
Fans have theorized that “B/RGB” could mean this is the blue card in a hidden red, green, and blue subset. Such a trio would reference the original Pokemon games while fitting YOSHIROTTEN’s established interest in RGB visuals. However, that interpretation remains entirely unconfirmed.
Why other collectors believe it is fake
The card also contains several significant red flags. Most notably, it does not carry the Pikachu-shaped 30th anniversary stamp seen on the expansion’s other revealed cards.
It also lacks a conventional collector number. While “B/RGB” could intentionally identify a secret subset, The Pokemon Company has not announced an RGB rarity or used that numbering system on any other known card. The only new rarity officially confirmed for 30th Celebration is Futuristic rare.
The Mew was also missing from the 30th Celebration card checklist that reportedly leaked alongside an early Elite Trainer Box guide. Secret inserts can be omitted from checklists, meaning its absence is not conclusive, but it gives skeptics another reason to question the pull.
The RGB Mew’s 60 HP, Psychic attack, weakness, resistance, retreat cost, and Pokedex entry match the officially revealed MEP Promo 105 Mew. That promo will be included in the 30th Celebration Mew Figure Collection on November 6.
Pokemon could have created an ultra-rare alternate treatment of the promo, but the publicly available card also provides a convincing mechanical template for anyone producing a fake.
Finally, the video cannot establish the pack’s chain of custody. PokeAus Hits already possessed unreleased 30th Celebration products, so even footage of the pack being opened cannot prove that it had not previously been altered.
The Pokemon Company and YOSHIROTTEN have not commented on the card, no second copy has surfaced, and the original has not received an independent examination. It could be an unannounced official insert, a sophisticated proxy placed inside a genuine pack, or even an unauthorized sample that was never intended for release.
For now, the physical RGB Mew clearly exists. What nobody can prove is whether it is an official Pokemon card.
