The Pokemon Go Ultra League: Mega Edition shakes up the Go Battle League by allowing Mega-Evolved Pokemon under the 2,500 CP limit, making the right Mega and team combination crucial.
Unlike the standard Ultra League, Mega Edition brings these powerful forms into the meta alongside established PvP threats. With only certain Megas fitting under the CP cap, knowing which ones are worth using can give you an edge in the Go Battle League.
Here are the best Pokemon for the Ultra League: Mega Edition, including the strongest Mega Evolutions, top picks, and teams to use.
Best team for the Pokemon Go Ultra League: Mega Edition
One of the best teams you can use in Pokemon Go’s Ultra League: Mega Edition is Mega Malamar, Corviknight, and Bellibolt. These are three of the strongest Pokemon that should give you coverage against most common opponents.
An alternate team players can try out includes Mega Raichu X, Florges, and Corviknight.
As with any League or Cup, it’s impossible to say what a true “best” team looks like in the Ultra League: Mega Edition, as it really depends on the Pokemon your opponent sends out – and you won’t know that until the battle begins.
Still, there are a few Pokemon that can perform well in most situations, which we’ve listed below alongside their optimal movesets and weaknesses.
Best Ultra League: Mega Edition Pokemon
Mega Malamar
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Psywave
- Charged Moves: Foul Play, Superpower, and Psybeam+
- Type: Dark/Psychic
- Resistances: Psychic
- Weaknesses: Bug and Fairy
Mega Malamar is an awkward matchup to navigate, with its unusual Dark/Psychic typing leaving Bug and Fairy as its only weaknesses. Psywave provides the Fast Move pressure, dealing Psychic-type STAB damage while setting up a varied trio of Charged Moves.
Foul Play supplies reliable Dark-type STAB for Ghost and Psychic opponents, while Superpower can catch Dark, Steel, Rock, Normal, and Ice-types for super-effective damage at the cost of lowering Mega Malamar’s Attack and Defense. Psybeam+ rounds things out as its heavy Psychic finisher, giving it a much bigger STAB threat when enough energy is available.
Dusknoir (XL)
NIANTIC- Fast Move: Astonish
- Charged Moves: Dynamic Punch and Shadow Punch
- Type: Ghost
- Resistances: Fighting, Normal, Bug, and Poison
- Weaknesses: Dark and Ghost
Dusknoir brings an interesting mix of Ghost pressure and Fighting coverage. With only Dark and Ghost attacks to worry about, it can find room to operate against several opponents, while Astonish delivers steady STAB damage as it works toward its Charged Moves.
Rather than going all-in on Ghost damage, Dusknoir can use Shadow Punch to keep shields under pressure before threatening a much heavier Dynamic Punch. That Fighting-type coverage is especially important against Dark-types that can exploit Dusknoir’s weakness, while also giving it a strong answer to Normal Pokemon.
Kingdra
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Dragon Breath
- Charged Moves: Surf and Swift
- Type: Water/Dragon
- Resistances: Fire, Water, and Steel
- Weaknesses: Dragon and Fairy
Kingdra keeps things simple: pile on damage and give opponents very few safe openings. Water/Dragon is a tricky combination to exploit, with only Dragon and Fairy attacks hitting it for super-effective damage, while Dragon Breath provides relentless STAB pressure from the opening turn.
Its Charged Moves favor speed over huge finishing blows. Surf brings dependable Water-type STAB to punish Fire, Ground, and Rock opponents, while Swift gives Kingdra a quick neutral option that can keep shields moving when Surf isn’t the ideal choice.
Alolan Ninetales (XL)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Powder Snow
- Charged Moves: Weather Ball (Ice) and Chilling Water
- Type: Ice/Fairy
- Resistances: Dragon, Bug, Dark, and Ice
- Weaknesses: Steel, Fire, Poison, and Rock
Alolan Ninetales can keep opponents under constant pressure, especially when Dragons enter the matchup. Powder Snow combines Ice-type STAB with strong energy generation, helping compensate for its relatively modest Fast Move damage and letting it reach its Charged Moves frequently.
Weather Ball (Ice) keeps the pace high with cheap, reliable STAB damage against Dragon, Flying, Grass, and Ground-types. Chilling Water offers a different kind of utility, adding Water coverage while lowering the opponent’s Attack and giving Alolan Ninetales a way to soften up tougher matchups.
Zygarde (Complete Forme)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Dragon Tail
- Charged Moves: Crunch and Earthquake
- Type: Dragon/Ground
- Resistances: Poison, Rock, Fire, and Electric
- Weaknesses: Ice, Dragon, and Fairy
Zygarde Complete Forme is a monster of endurance, where its huge bulk allows it to absorb punishment while Dragon Tail steadily wears opponents down. Dragon/Ground also gives it useful resistances to Fire, Rock, and Poison, alongside a double resistance to Electric.
Crunch gives Zygarde a relatively accessible source of Dark coverage, particularly useful for threatening Ghost and Psychic-types. Earthquake is the big closer, delivering devastating Ground-type STAB against Steel, Fire, Rock, Poison, and Electric opponents once Zygarde has enough energy to unleash it.
Jellicent (XL)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Hex
- Charged Moves: Surf and Shadow Ball
- Type: Water/Ghost
- Resistances: Normal, Fighting, Water, Steel, Poison, Ice, Fire, and Bug
- Weaknesses: Dark, Electric, Ghost, and Grass
Jellicent can be a difficult Pokemon to push out thanks to its bulk and awkward Water/Ghost defensive profile. Eight resistances give it plenty of opportunities to absorb damage, while Hex keeps its Charged Moves within easy reach.
Surf lets Jellicent chip away at opponents and burn through shields with reliable Water-type STAB, particularly against Fire, Ground, and Rock-types. When something heavier is needed, Shadow Ball provides the knockout threat, giving Jellicent a dangerous answer to Psychic and opposing Ghost Pokemon.
Forretress (XL)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Volt Switch
- Charged Moves: Rock Tomb and Sand Tomb
- Type: Bug/Steel
- Resistances: Poison, Grass, Steel, Psychic, Normal, Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Bug
- Weaknesses: Fire
Few picks in the Ultra League: Mega Edition can play the disruption game quite like Forretress. Its Bug/Steel typing gives it a remarkable nine resistances and leaves Fire as its only weakness, while Volt Switch brings valuable Electric coverage and keeps energy flowing.
The real nuisance comes once Forretress starts firing off Charged Moves. Sand Tomb chips away while lowering the opponent’s Defense, opening the door for stronger follow-up damage, whereas Rock Tomb cuts their Attack and can punish Flying, Fire, Bug, and Ice-types at the same time.
Galarian Moltres
NIANTIC- Fast Move: Sucker Punch
- Charged Moves: Brave Bird and Fly
- Type: Dark/Flying
- Resistances: Psychic, Ground, Grass, Ghost, and Dark
- Weaknesses: Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock
Galarian Moltres brings a much more explosive playstyle, using Sucker Punch to apply Dark-type STAB pressure while rapidly working toward its Flying attacks. Its Dark/Flying typing is particularly handy for shutting down Psychic and Ground damage, while also resisting Ghost and Dark.
Fly is the more reliable Charged Move, offering strong Flying-type STAB without compromising Galarian Moltres afterward. Brave Bird is the high-risk knockout option, hitting significantly harder but sharply lowering its Defense, so it works best when shields are down or when Galarian Moltres can switch out immediately afterward.
Virizion

- Fast Move: Double Kick
- Charged Moves: Leaf Blade and Sacred Sword
- Type: Grass/Fighting
- Resistances: Ground, Rock, Water, Grass, Electric, and Dark
- Weaknesses: Flying, Poison, Fire, Psychic, Ice, and Fairy
The Legendary Virizion is all about tempo in the Ultra League: Mega Edition. Double Kick generates energy quickly, allowing it to constantly threaten opponents rather than waiting around for expensive attacks, while its Grass/Fighting typing makes it particularly effective against Water, Rock, and Dark matchups.
Both Charged Moves keep that fast-paced strategy going. Leaf Blade is an efficient Grass-type STAB attack that tears into Water, Ground, and Rock opponents, while Sacred Sword adds equally valuable Fighting coverage for Dark, Steel, Rock, Normal, and Ice-types. Just keep Virizion well away from Flying attacks, which exploit its double weakness.
Empoleon (Shadow)
THE POKEMON COMPANY- Fast Move: Metal Sound
- Charged Moves: Hydro Cannon and Drill Peck
- Type: Water/Steel
- Resistances: Steel, Poison, Ice, Water, Rock, Psychic, Normal, Flying, Fairy, Dragon, and Bug
- Weaknesses: Electric, Fighting, and Ground
Shadow Empoleon trades some of its usual staying power for much more immediate damage, making it an aggressive option. Its Water/Steel typing still does plenty of defensive work, providing a massive 11 resistances, while Metal Sound helps it quickly build toward the attacks where its real threat lies.
Hydro Cannon is the move opponents need to respect, combining STAB, low energy cost, and the Shadow damage boost to apply serious pressure. Drill Peck complements it with Flying coverage against Fighting and Grass-types, giving Shadow Empoleon an important way to respond to opponents that can otherwise cause it problems.
Florges
NIANTIC/THE POKEMON COMPANY- Fast Move: Fairy Wind
- Charged Moves: Chilling Water and Disarming Voice
- Type: Fairy
- Resistances: Dragon, Bug, Dark, and Fighting
- Weaknesses: Poison and Steel
Florges plays a more measured game, using its Fairy typing to keep Dragon, Dark, and Fighting opponents in check. Fairy Wind deals limited damage by itself, but its fast energy gain keeps Florges active and lets it repeatedly threaten with Charged Moves.
Disarming Voice provides dependable Fairy-type STAB and is the natural choice for putting pressure on Dragons and Fighters. Chilling Water adds some useful Water coverage against Fire, Ground, and Rock-types while also lowering the opponent’s Attack, giving Florges extra staying power in longer matchups.
Tinkaton (XL)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Fairy Wind
- Charged Moves: Gigaton Hammer and Bulldoze
- Type: Fairy/Steel
- Resistances: Dragon, Bug, Rock, Psychic, Poison, Normal, Ice, Grass, Flying, Fairy, and Dark
- Weaknesses: Fire and Ground
Tinkaton has one of the most forgiving defensive typings in the Ultra League: Mega Edition, resisting a huge portion of the field while fearing only Fire and Ground attacks. Fairy Wind prioritizes energy over raw Fast Move damage, allowing it to reach its much more threatening Charged Moves quickly.
Gigaton Hammer is the main attraction, giving Tinkaton a powerful Steel-type STAB attack that can punish Fairy, Ice, and Rock opponents. Bulldoze rounds out the set with valuable Ground coverage, particularly against Fire, Steel, Electric, Poison, and Rock-types that can otherwise make life difficult for it.
Corviknight (XL)
NIANTIC/DEXERTO- Fast Move: Sand Attack
- Charged Moves: Air Cutter and Payback
- Type: Flying/Steel
- Resistances: Bug, Grass, Poison, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Normal, Psychic, Steel, and Ground
- Weaknesses: Electric and Fire
Corviknight’s biggest advantage is how difficult it can be to hit effectively. Its Flying/Steel combination stacks up ten resistances while leaving just Electric and Fire as weaknesses, giving it plenty of opportunities to stick around and build energy with Sand Attack.
Rather than relying on one type of damage, Corviknight splits its Charged Moves between two useful options. Air Cutter provides Flying-type STAB to threaten Fighting, Bug, and Grass opponents, while Payback brings much heavier Dark coverage for Ghost and Psychic-types that would otherwise be awkward matchups.
Lickilicky (XL)
NIANTIC- Fast Move: Rollout
- Charged Moves: Body Slam and Shadow Ball
- Type: Normal
- Resistances: Ghost
- Weaknesses: Fighting
Lickilicky earns its place in the list through bulk and consistency rather than explosive damage. Its pure Normal typing leaves it with only one weakness, while Rollout generates energy quickly enough to keep its Charged Moves coming throughout longer battles.
Body Slam is Lickilicky’s bread-and-butter STAB attack, providing frequent shield pressure without requiring much energy. Shadow Ball supplies the heavier coverage, most notably giving it a way to punish Ghost-types that resist Body Slam while also threatening Psychic opponents.
Mimikyu (XL)
DEXERTO- Fast Move: Shadow Claw
- Charged Moves: Shadow Sneak and Play Rough
- Type: Ghost/Fairy
- Resistances: Fighting, Bug, Dragon, and Normal
- Weaknesses: Ghost and Steel
Mimikyu brings a useful defensive profile to the Ultra League: Mega Edition, with its Ghost/Fairy typing leaving it vulnerable to just Ghost and Steel attacks. It can be particularly disruptive against Fighting and Dragon opponents, while Shadow Claw combines solid Ghost-type damage with reliable energy generation.
Shadow Sneak is the quicker Charged Move, giving Mimikyu a way to maintain pressure and chip away at Ghost and Psychic-types. Play Rough takes longer to reach but hits considerably harder with Fairy-type STAB, making it the stronger option for punishing Dragon, Dark, and Fighting opponents.
Pokemon Go Mega Edition rules & restrictions explained
The Pokemon Go Ultra League: Mega Edition follows the standard Ultra League 2,500 CP limit, but with one major difference: Mega-Evolved Pokemon are eligible. This opens the meta to powerful Mega Evolutions while still requiring every Pokemon on your team to meet the league’s CP restriction.
In the near future, Niantic will also temporarily reduce the CP of Mega-Evolved Pokemon that exceed the limit so they can compete in Ultra League: Mega Edition, with their original CP returning after the battle. This means more Megas can fit into the 2,500 CP format without permanently changing their stats or power level.
Ultra League: Mega Edition start & end date
The latest Battle League season is underway, running from June 2, 2026, until September 8, 2026. For the rest of its run, the Ultra League: Mega Edition will appear on:
- September 1 – September 8: along with the Great and Master Leagues in their Mega Editions.
This means you’ll only have one week to dominate this Go Battle League cup and work your way to the top. Plus, during it, you’ll get x4 Stardust from win rewards (not including end-of-set rewards).
Those are the best Pokemon you can add to your Ultra League: Mega Edition team during this Pokemon Go season. For more content, check out the best attackers, defenders, and PvP champions, and stay updated with the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
