I’ve never quite understood the hype for PowerWash Simulator. I’ve dabbled with both the original game and its sequel, playing them for a couple of hours each, never to return. I’d come to the conclusion that, even though I believe the concept is kind of neat, it just wasn’t my thing. Then PowerWash Simulator 2’s Star Wars DLC came along.
The protagonists of PowerWash Simulator have had the honor of traveling to some pretty special locations thanks to various expansions over the years. Bikini Bottom, Midgar – they even spruced up Shrek’s Swamp. All locales pulled from things I love, but it wasn’t until I saw the trailer for its Star Wars DLC that I decided to get soaked myself.
Hold Onto Your Hoses, We’re Heading Into Hyperspace
The idea of traveling across the galaxy like some sort of soap-fueled bounty hunter is appealing in its own right. Now, having spent hours, virtual powerwasher in hand as I tackled a filthy X-Wing and a Millennium Falcon that looked like it had spent the last few centuries submerged on Ahch-To, I’m so glad I gave it a chance. In fact, it’s turned me into a powerwashing convert.
Although the biggest message I’m trying to convey here is that powerwashing stuff in the Star Wars universe is cooler than you think (it really is), that’s not the leading reason why this PowerWash pack has left me feeling a certain way about the series. It’s how the expansion took me to locations I have spent decades watching and playing in across games, shows, and movies again and again. It showed me parts of them I had never seen before and experience them in whole new ways.
Your first job is to clean up the Lars homestead, the moisture farm where we’re introduced to Luke Skywalker in the first movie. No one is there aside from you, of course, as is the norm for PowerWash. Everything else, however, is as it is in that original film. What you can’t do in that original movie is truly explore every nook and cranny.
These Are Star Wars Locations As You Have Never Seen Or Experienced Them Before
If it sounds a little nerdy, that’s because it is, and that’s the whole point. PowerWash fan or not, this DLC is going to appeal to hardcore Star Wars fans because it lets you take an in-depth look at the locations and vehicles from the movies that you’ve been tasked with cleaning. Even better than the moisture farm where you begin your powerwashing adventure is the Super Star Destroyer Bridge you encounter later on. Even though Darth Vader was out for the day, every time I turned to the control panel, I pictured him standing there.
I’m still unsure how the inside of a Star Destroyer got that dirty, but I’m glad it did.
The coup de grace of the Star Wars expansion, however, is the AT-AT. One of the best levels I’ve played in any game all year, and I was basically just squirting water at a giant mech. Never has the scale of the Empire’s largest land weapon ever felt so incredible. To get every nook and cranny of the AT-AT clean, you need to meticulously move platforms, place ladders, and even abseil. Yes, you abseil up an AT-AT in this game now. When has any other form of Star Wars media let you do that?
Now that my Star Wars powerwashing journey has come to an end, I need to determine whether it was just the Star Wars of it all that had its hooks in me, or if I’m a fully fledged PowerWash sicko now. I’m hopeful it’s the latter and that I now have almost two whole games, plus various expansions, to revisit. That said, I’m unconvinced anything is going to compare to the thrill I got from standing on top of an AT-AT, spraying it down with a souped-up watergun.
