Fritz isn’t in the best form of his career heading into the US Open, although he may have just received a major boost to his title chances.

Paul Annacone claims the US Open courts are most similar to those in Washington where Taylor Fritz won

During the latest episode of the ‘Big T Podcast‘, Roger Federer’s former coach, Paul Annacone, shared his thoughts on this year’s US Open courts.

“Courts are playing medium-ish, medium-quick, but you came up with a good point off camera. Let’s see how it is in two weeks, after it gets a lot of play,” said Annacone to Brad Gilbert.

“It’s a little slower than it was in Cincy, a little slower than Montreal, and closest to Washington for the summer.

“It’s going to be an amazing couple of weeks.”

Annacone believes the US Open conditions are most similar to those we saw in Washington earlier this month.

That’s great news for Fritz, who won his first title of the season in the nation’s capital.

The American has won 67% of his matches at Flushing Meadows and reached his only career major final at the 2024 US Open.

There, he lost to the world’s best hard-court player, Jannik Sinner, in straight sets.

Luckily for Fritz, Sinner won’t stand in his way at this year’s US Open, after he withdrew from the tournament due to injury.

The stars are aligning for Fritz, but he still has a long way to go…

Taylor Fritz fails in his bid to win US Open mixed doubles title

Fritz has yet to win a Grand Slam title and just passed up another opportunity to win his first.

The American teamed up with Jessica Pegula for the US Open mixed doubles event, needing four wins to take the title.

Unfortunately for Fritz and Pegula, they fell at the first hurdle, losing to Diana Shnaider and Casper Ruud, 2-4, 1-4.

So, if he is to win a Grand Slam title in New York, it will have to be in singles.

Fritz will discover who he will play in the first round of the US Open when the draw is made on Thursday, August 27.

The first round of matches will start on Sunday, August 30.
