Rolando Dy is the BKB super welterweight champion, but he has aspirations for more gold inside the Mighty Trigon. LT Nelson is also on Dy’s radar, and the pound-for-pound juggernaut in bare-knuckle currently holds the middleweight and super middleweight belts. But first, Dy defends his Police Gazette diamond belt this weekend on October 10th at BKB 60 when he battles five-time BKB champ, Scott McHugh.
The history-making defending champ, who became the first Filipino fighter to capture bare-knuckle gold, looks to author his sophomore title defense after Dy finished Paulie Malignaggi in the second stanza of their BKB 54 clash in May. Outlining his ideal scenario, not just in Newcastle on Saturday but in his career beyond this weekend, Dy quipped [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“Win this belt and maybe win another belt in middleweight in the future. I know LT [Nelson] is a tough person. So, I’m trying. Maybe I’ll challenge him after I defended my belt against Scott McHugh in Britain.”
BKB 60 and the path beyond for Rolando Dy
LT ‘Smash’ Nelson has the drive to become a three-division champion in the company and recently showed that by securing a win at BKB 56 in Los Angeles by way of a fifth-round TKO.
After articulating the context of LT Nelson concurrently being BKB’s middleweight as well as super middleweight champ, with Nelson having a recent successful debut in the Rolando Dy-helmed super welterweight class over Serob Minasyan, Dy quipped [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“Yeah. I mean I have a proposal for him. Maybe he defend his belt first in the middleweight. Then whatever the result, if I win or if he defended his belt up in middleweight, maybe we can do the rematch in my belt. But I hope I can challenge him first in the middleweight and give me a chance to earn my second belt against him.”
