Linda Noskova won the first Grand Slam of her career after defeating fellow Czech Karolina Muchova in the Wimbledon final on Saturday.

Noskova, just 21 years of age, came through a thrilling three-set clash with elder compatriot Muchova, winning 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

The match almost got away from the eventual champion, who failed to capitalise on five match points in the second set before a decider was forced.

Predict now – who are the two women who make the US Open final?

Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek are all out of form…

But Noskova held firm to overcome Muchova and cap off a remarkable campaign in SW19, which included wins over Madison Keys, Elise Mertens and Marta Kostyuk.

With her triumph, Noskova cracked the top 10 in the WTA rankings, and former American player Sam Querrey thinks she is there to stay.

Sam Querrery and Steve Johnson discuss Linda Noskova’s future

Speaking in an episode of the ‘Nothing Major‘ podcast, Querrey said of Noskova: “I think she is going to be a staple in the top 10 for the next year, maybe longer.

“I think she is going to be in the top 10 for the next five years! I don’t know if she will be vying for number one, but top 10 for sure.”

Steve Johnson, a former world number 21, added: “There is nothing that shows me that she is not a top 10 player and what she just did mentally in that final, is like what we talk about with Coco Gauff.

What does Coco Gauff need to improve to become a major champion once again?

“Her mental side of things will keep her there, if that is like a day to day thing for her, she is in the top 10 forever until she decides to stop playing tennis.”

Noskova’s new ranking is world number seven, which is now higher than Iga Swiatek, who dropped five places after bowing out in the third round of her Wimbledon title defence.

Movements in the WTA top ten after conclusion of Wimbledon

The top 10 in the WTA rankings look a lot different to how they did before Wimbledon’s conclusion.

While Swiatek was the biggest faller, Amanda Anisimova also dropped three places to ninth, having lost in the third round after reaching the final last year.

After making the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in her career, Coco Gauff moved up three places to world number four.

Jessica Pegula, who was knocked out by Gauff, also rose from fourth to third, matching her career high.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka keeps her place in the top spot for now, though Elena Rybakina is just 400 WTA points away from her.
