Julian Champagnie traded his jersey for a Shrek costume during a surprise Halloween visit to Methodist Children’s Hospital on Friday.
Champagnie was joined by the Spurs Coyote as he went door-to-door visiting children hospitalized at Methodist. He exchanged high fives, posed for photos, signed autographs, and passed out treats to patients who can’t participate in traditional trick-or-treating this year.

Felicia Barrera, the mother of a patient at Methodist Children’s Hospital, said Champagnie’s visit brought “smiles, laughter, and the Spurs magic to brighten up” an unexpected Halloween stay in the hospital.

“For a minute it helps you forget why you’re here and not see your kid in pain and I can’t thank them enough for that small distraction,” she added.
This was the Spurs forward’s second year participating in Methodist’s reverse trick-or-treating, where hospital staff bring spooky cheer directly to patients’ rooms. Last year, he dressed as Scooby Doo to pass out Spurs swag and candy to children in the hospital.

“That’s what this is for,” Champagnie said in a press release. “To come out here and give the kids and their parents a good time, spread some joy and make them smile a little. Every time I get to come out here and make kids smile, it makes me happy.”
