Despite garnering a positive reputation from its user base, Steam was recently hit with an absolutely major data leak that saw the data mining of over 12 TB worth of assets from Valve, as noted by gabefollower on X.
While there haven’t been any absolutely earth-shattering reveals just yet, players have only just started combing through the absolutely massive amount of content there is to uncover. With unfinished models and cut content ranging from classic games like Left 4 Dead, Portal, CS:GO, alongside canceled games like the highly anticipated Half Life 2: Episode 3, Valve fans will want to keep an eye out for future updates in the coming days.
Everything We Know About The Leaks So Far
While the latest data breach follows Valve’s previous Steam Machine cyber attack raises questions about the studio’s digital security, fans have already been quick to share some of the most exciting reveals from the announcement, which has primarily come from reveals over early concepts for Portal 2 and Half Life 2: Episode 3 so far
Showcasing a playable beta and assets from the original Portal 2, the leak revealed never-before-seen versions of Cheryl, a new weapon, and even the inclusion of a zombie with animations that suggest it was going to have combat and weapons shared with Half Life 2: Episode 2’s successor.
Although players are still piecing together and theorizing over what some of these assets were made for, the leak also offered full 3D models of several weapons, items, and other assets that fans have either never seen before or only had quick glimpses of through leaked screenshots in the past.
These weren’t the only interesting details leaked either, as several old models from Left 4 Dead reveal an almost unrecognizable cast from what we saw in the full release, combined with more details about Valve’s canceled puzzle game F-Stop.
Even though the leak doesn’t make up for Half Life 3’s constant delays, the next few days will offer a few glimpses at what fans could have had from Valve’s classic franchises.
