Arthur Fery kept the British dream alive at Wimbledon on Monday after beating Grigor Dimitrov to reach the quarterfinals.

Fery defeated Dimitrov in a near-four-hour five-set clash, coming back from two sets to one down to triumph 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The last Briton standing in singles at Wimbledon, aged 23, became the first wildcard to make the last eight in men’s singles at the grass-court major since Nick Kyrgios in 2014.

Ranked 114th in the world, Fery had never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam prior to the 2026 Championships.

But American star Taylor Fritz, who also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, was not shocked to see the home hope join him in the last eight.

Taylor Fritz says he knows a ‘good bit’ about Arthur Fery

Fritz defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the third consecutive season.

Asked about Fery in his post-match press conference, the world number seven said: “I know a good bit about Arthur.

“I went to London before the 2024 World Tour Finals, and I did a training week there prior to Turin. I practiced with him most of the week. He was there.

“I was playing well. I made finals of Turin the next week. I felt pretty good about my game. He was beating me, like, every day. I was like, Yeah, this guy’s really good. This guy can play.

“He had a good forehand for his size. Unbelievable serve. Like I said, we were playing sets, baseline games. He was cooking me pretty consistently for the week.

“I knew that I was playing good tennis, so it’s not surprising to me that he’s having results and also taking advantage of a draw that’s, like, opened up a bit.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s winning. I’ve known since then that he can play.”

Taylor Fritz could meet Arthur Fery in the Wimbledon semifinals

After overcoming Bublik, Fritz will now take on the winner of Alexander Zverev and Jiri Lehecka, which was suspended after the German went two sets up on Monday night due to 11pm curfew.

Fery is on the same half of the draw as Fritz and will take on Flavio Cobolli next in the quarterfinals, whom he beat earlier this year at the Australian Open.

Should both Fery and Fritz win their quarterfinal matches, they will meet each other for the first time at Wimbledon.

Fritz is looking to become the first American to win a men’s singles Grand Slam since Andy Roddick in 2003.

He made the semifinals last year at Wimbledon, but was ultimately denied a place in a second major final by Carlos Alcaraz.
