Alex de Minaur won his 10th career title at the 2025 Washington Open.

The Australian star, nicknamed the ‘Demon’, saved three championship points before beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 6-1, 7-6.

De Minaur earned $420,525 in prize money and 500 ATP ranking points.

Will Alex de Minaur finish 2026 ranked inside the top five?

If the Demon were to win this year’s title in Washington, he would become only the fifth man to defend his crown since the tournament’s inauguration in 1969.

But what would he earn?

Last year, the Washington Open Men’s Singles event offered a total prize pot of $2,396,115.

This year, that figure has increased to $2,488,125.

This works out as an increase of approximately 3.83 per cent.

If Alex de Minaur were to defend his title in Washington, he would earn $455,920. This is an increase of approximately 8.41 per cent compared to last year’s total.

The winner of the Washington Open Women’s Singles event will earn $252,000 – up 27.5 per cent from last year’s total of $197,570.

Leylah Fernandez is the defending women’s singles champion. The Canadian, a finalist at the 2021 US Open, defeated Russian Anna Kalinskaya in the 2025 final.

She began her 2026 campaign on Monday, beating Magda Linette 6-1, 6-4.

How does the total compare to 10 years ago?

Frenchman Gael Monfils won the 2016 Washington Open, beating big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic in the final.

Monfils also defeated Borna Coric, Sam Querrey and Alexander Zverev en route to the title.

Monfils, the second seed, earned $348,200 for his efforts in the American capital.

The prize money for the men’s singles champion has therefore increased by almost 31 per cent over the past decade.

Ten years prior to Monfils’ triumph, another Frenchman won the Washington event.

Arnaud Clement triumphed in Washington, beating Great Britain’s Andy Murray 7-6, 6-2 in the final.

The total prize money for the event was $575,000.

Since 2006, the Washington Open prize money total has increased by 332.7 per cent.
