When asked about injuries factoring into his roster decisions, Mauricio Pochettino said they “always” factor in as they do with any coach selecting a national team roster.
💬 “We were all seeing things, observing all that is going on, seeking advice from the performance medical staff, and then what you see is my assessment is how to get the best balance in the 26, and the right players and best players to make the roster.
“I know what it’s like to be out of the roster. During my career, when I was a player in 1994, that was a World Cup year in the USA, I was out. I was so close. Then in 1998, the same. And then I waited another four years after for the World Cup in Japan and Korea in 2002, and finally, I made the roster. That is why I know how painful. It was it was so painful for me to make those decisions. But that is my job. Not only to dictate the way we are going to play, the way were are going to be together, my job is to make a decision like this. But it’s painful. Before the player, they are a person, and we care about the human being. It’s difficult.”
