Valve has sent out a warning to those who purchased Steam hardware, as their personal details may have been leaked in a cyberattack.
In an email sent to customers living in Europe who ordered Steam hardware, such as the Steam Machine and Steam Controller, Valve explained that CEVA Logistics, the company used for distribution, has been hit by a cyberattack.
As a result, those responsible have access to any personal details submitted as part of the order, including names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.

“CEVA is still investigating this attack, but as Valve learned on August 7, certain information about Steam customers, including you, was likely compromised,” the email reads, as shared on Reddit by ‘nelsonsflagship’ and a number of other users.
“CEVA received specific delivery-related information from Steam to be able to ship physical hardware to customers in Europe, and told us these are the details the attacker likely took.”
Although the attackers will have access to the email address associated with the Steam account of those affected, Valve has reassured customers that this breach shouldn’t impact their account.
“Additional information related to your Steam account or other purchases was not impacted,” the message continues. “CEVA does not have access to your payment information, passwords, Steam Guard codes, or other information.”
However, Valve has warned that it could lead to fake emails and texts that are supposedly regarding the order, so anyone impacted should remain vigilant.
This will no doubt be frustrating for fans, who already had to wait to get their hands on the Steam Machine after it was delayed. It was in high demand too, as it sold out in Japan within three hours.
