Champion – Joao Fonseca

Brazilian star Fonseca qualified for the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals as the eighth seed, but made the most of the opportunity by winning the title.

He then made his first Grand Slam breakthrough at the beginning of the 2025 season, knocking Andrey Rublev out of the Australian Open.

Fonseca continued to impress post-Melbourne, winning titles in Buenos Aires and Basel, causing many to wonder whether he could be the man to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

2026 hasn’t been quite so successful for Fonseca, as he has yet to win a title, but he did stun Novak Djokovic at the French Open.

Runner-up – Learner Tien

When Fonseca converted match point against Tien two years ago, you wouldn’t have found many fans willing to back the American to achieve a better career-high ranking by 2026.

Tien has quickly developed into not only one of the most entertaining players on tour, but one of the most effective.

Like Fonseca, Tien has won two ATP titles, and the 20-year-old is already eyeing a spot in the world’s top 10.

Semi-finalist – Luca Van Assche

Luca Van Assche lost to Fonseca at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, and for some time, that remained the highlight of his young career.

That was until the Frenchman made a major step forward in 2026.

Van Assche won three Challenger titles at the beginning of the season, before winning his maiden ATP title in Estoril, helping him break into the world’s top 50.

Semi-finalist – Alex Michelsen

The second seed, Alex Michelsen, was one of the favourites to win the 2024 Next Gen Finals, but lost to Tien in the semis.

He didn’t let the defeat dampen his spirits, though, and has successfully worked his way up the rankings.

Michelsen has yet to win an ATP title, despite losing three finals; however, he does have wins over the likes of Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti, and Taylor Fritz, and has been a member of Team World at the Laver Cup.

Whether he can make a charge towards the top 10 or the top 20 remains to be seen, but he certainly looks comfortable in the top 50.

Group stage exit – Arthur Fils

Arthur Fils was the clear favourite to win the 2024 Next Gen Finals, having already won two ATP 500 titles that year.

He couldn’t deliver the goods, though, and failed to advance out of the group stage.

A tricky 2025 season followed, where Fils missed several months due to injury.

Back fit, for the most part, in 2026, the Frenchman has continued to shine on the ATP Tour and looks capable of beating almost anyone when he plays his best.

Group stage exit – Jakub Mensik

Czechia’s Jakub Mensik was another player who underwhelmed at the Next Gen Finals two years ago, losing all three matches he played in the group stage.

Luckily for Mensik, that failure proved to be just a blip, as he continues to deliver on his potential.

He won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open a year ago, and reached the French Open semis this season.

While not the most consistent player on tour, Mensik has shown flashes of excellence that could one day lead him to Grand Slam glory.

Group stage exit – Nishesh Basavareddy

Nishesh Basavareddy was the lowest-ranked American in the Next Gen Finals draw, and the only one who failed to reach the semis.

Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, he hasn’t quite enjoyed the same success as Tien and Michelsen since 2024.

He is undoubtedly a talented player, but things haven’t clicked on the ATP Tour, and he is still waiting to win his first tour-level title.

Group stage exit – Juncheng Shang

Juncheng Shang looked like one of the most exciting prospects in men’s tennis heading into the 2024 Next Gen Finals.

The Chinese star won his maiden ATP title just a few months prior on home soil at the Chengdu Open, and had earned himself a spot in the top 50.

However, the Next Gen ATP Finals didn’t go to plan for Shang, and neither did his 2025 season that followed.

Shang underwent surgery on his foot, missing several months, and still hasn’t rediscovered the form he showed in 2024.

Everything you need to know about the 2026 Next Gen ATP Finals

It is not yet known where this year’s Next Gen ATP Finals will be held.

The bidding process began in November 2025, but we still haven’t had a new host confirmed.

We do, however, have a strong idea of which players will compete at the event.

Rafael Jodar, Fonseca, Martin Landaluce, Joel Schwaerzler, Federico Cina, Diego Dedura, Moise Kouame, and Rei Sakamoto are the eight players who currently occupy the qualifying positions.
