Xbox Reveals €200 Price Hike In Europe

Xbox confirmed in June that Series X/S consoles would face another price hike of $100-$150 for the 512GB and 1TB models, respectively.

As reported by VGC, the price hike in Europe and the UK has now also been confirmed. Resetera forum users noted that the Series X has increased from €599.99 to €799.99, a 33% hike. To put that into perspective, European buyers are now being charged roughly $922 for a console that costs $799.99 in the US.

In the UK, the price of a 1TB disc model has increased from £499.99 to £669.99, which is approximately $903 when converted — 12% more than what US buyers are paying.

That means the Xbox Series S, which was marketed as the budget-friendly option for current-gen gaming, now costs €50 more than the previous Xbox Series X (1TB, Digital) price.

€799.99 for a console that was €499.99 in 2020 certainly feels backwards — typically hardware gets more affordable as the generation nears its end. But it’s not strictly because of Microsoft. The insatiable demand of AI data centers has spurred on a global memory shortage, causing a huge increase in the price of computing components.

Windows Central senior editor Jez Corden even claimed earlier this week that Microsoft is still making a loss selling consoles at this price, putting into perspective just how damaging AI has been to the affordability of modern tech.
