Marvin Harrison Jr.’s role in the NFL is set to look very different in November than it looked in September. At the start of the season, the wide receiver was a member of the Arizona Cardinals and in the driver’s seat to be the team’s starting wide receiver. Now, he finds himself on a fresh roster with seemingly no advantage other than invested draft capital from the trade.
The mid-season move generated plenty of questions about how the trade was handled. Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio explained what happened from his perspective in a 95.7 The Fan video clip posted on X by Houston Stressans via Ian Rapoport.

“He and I had been communicating for about two weeks or so,” Caserio said. “This didn’t really start until the beginning of October. I had reached out and said, ‘Hey, we’re kind of looking around here a little bit, potentially could be interested, and not sure if there’s any interest on your end.'”

“I wouldn’t say they were actively shopping the guy or trading the guy, but part of our responsibility is to inquire and ask questions,” Caserio continued. “He and I agreed to the deal Friday night (Oct. 9). … I gave him my word; he gave me his word.”
“That’s how he and I do business, but he wanted to handle it a certain way as it pertains to the communication. … I think he communicated with Marvin that he was going to be inactive Saturday morning (Oct. 10),” Caserio said. “I think they wanted to wait until after the game to communicate to the player, ‘This is where you’re going.'”
Harrison ended his run with the Arizona Cardinals with 33 games of action, 108 receptions, and 1,578 receiving yards. Fans can only wait to see if the receiver will bounce back after a lukewarm start to his NFL career.

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s trade details reveal former Cardinals WR’s current value

The full trade details for Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Cardinals exit were posted on Saturday. According to Adam Schefter in an X report, the Cardinals traded Harrison and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
The trade revealed what the Houston Texans thought of Harrison, as evidenced by what the team gave up. The Texans swapped a sixth-round pick for a seventh-round pick, which many would agree is negligible.
The true crux of the trade was the Texans’ expenditure of a second-round pick in exchange for Harrison. Put simply, it wasn’t cheap for Houston, which revealed that it held the receiver in high regard, even if a second-round pick and a late pick swap was a decline in value from his No. 4 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As such, Marvin Harrison Jr. will have plenty on his shoulders to help prove that the deal was worth it for Texans general manager Nick Caserio. With only one conventional season left on his rookie deal after the 2027 season (Spotrac), Harrison will have plenty of work ahead of him to guarantee at least a fifth-year option.
