Nintendo fans will be returning to Wuhu Island in droves today as Nintendo Switch Sports Resort officially arrives on Switch 2. Some people are already there, and even though the game has only been available for a matter of hours, they are performing frankly unbelievable feats.
Someone Already Found The Archery Apple
One of those feats has resulted in the new game’s first viral video. Shared by shirasu_8pan, the clip shows them playing archery in Switch Sports Resort, and it already has almost one million views. That’s because not only does it show the player pulling off an amazing trick shot, but it reveals a very cool easter egg that’s a tip of the hat to Wii Sports Resort.
The player draws their bow and carefully lines up their shot. The thing is, they’re not aiming at the board. There’s no wind to account for either, so when they release their arrow, it’s unclear why this clip is notable, as it looks like it’s just going to show them missing the target by some distance.
Normally, when you’re going to miss the target playing archery in Switch Sports Resort, the camera remains fixed, and you watch the arrow sail off into the distance. In this clip, the camera follows the arrow, past the target, over a river, and plants itself directly into an apple sitting on a rock some distance away.
Every Range Has A Hidden Target
Curious as to how they could have possibly known the apple was going to be there, I fired up the game myself to take a look. Turns out, if you’re looking closely – which I clearly was not when I reviewed the game – you can just about see the apple when you draw your bow, off in the distance, sitting on a rock.
There are hidden targets like these in Wii Sports Resort too, and that got me thinking – is the apple a one-off Easter egg, or, like its predecessor, is there a hidden object you can hit for maximum points on every course? Turns out it’s the latter.
Each of the three ranges on the Plaza course has a hidden target. Look off to the left on the second range, and you’ll see a piñata sitting on a rock just off the shore. On range number three, the hidden target is a cheeseburger that you can see just off to the left, sitting on a rooftop.
Why do the screenshots not show me hitting the targets? Don’t worry about it.
Since there are targets on all three ranges in the Plaza course, that presumably means there’s one hidden away on every course in the game. I’ve found the first three; now I’m going to get back to it and find the rest, and see if I can actually hit some of them rather than just admire them from afar.
