Helldivers 2 has been a roller-coaster of a live-service title ever since it debuted, receiving countless praises as one of the most unique co-op shooters in recent years alongside numerous complaints over technical and developmental problems. Although the live-service game had earned some good graces with a massive player cap increase recently, a new anti-cheat update has been getting slammed by fans.
Aside from breaking countless mods and massive fan-made projects for the game, one unforeseen side effect has more players finding out about one controversial mechanic that has been slowly turning from a fan theory into an outright conspiracy now.
Helldivers 2 Is Actively Trying To Kill You
If there’s one thing just about every Helldivers 2 player has experienced, it’s a turret with a mind of its own trying to shoot enemies from a distance regardless of if there is a Helldiver in the way or not. While most of these have been chalked up to a coincidence, some viral videos like the one posted by Helldivers_NOW on X are incredibly hard to defend.
With turrets tracking the exact direction your Helldiver moves and shooting even with no enemies in sight, it’s clear that the legions of aliens aren’t the only thing on their radar, causing even more players to come out of the woodwork and post videos of other turrets like the Las Sentry going out of its way to track players.
While players have simply resorted to mods to avoid the issue, the latest anti-cheat update has broken nearly all modded updates, leading to a skyrocketing number of players encountering the problem.
Helldivers 2 Is Under A Lot Of Heat Right Now
Although this is far from the first time Helldivers 2 has been under pressure and reviewbombed by players, the latest issue also has players raising their concerns about several other frustrating gameplay mechanics related to the turret team-killing incidents.
While it hasn’t actually been confirmed, some players are fully convinced that Helldivers 2 has an internal timer that tracks when you last died, forcing you to be targeted by random events, enemies, or even your own Strategams.
While it’s hard to tell how much of this is just bad luck or intentional game design, players have reported numerous instances of dying to environmental damage or suddenly being hit by an attack out of nowhere after enough time has passed.
While it’s going to be rough for many PC players having to experience Helldivers 2 in all its unmodded glory for some time, hopefully it means some of the issues fans have been resorting to using mods to fix will have more attention brought to them for an official patch.
